Background:
Garick Lawson was born in the year of the scales. His upbringing was nothing unusual or spectacular. He was not a star in athletics. By the same token, he was not the outcast or the town whipping boy. Simply put, the boy was a peacemaker. Ever since the time he stepped in to break up a fight between two village boys, his peers looked on him to make judgments and to mediate in disputes. When his father rose to be a town elder, Garick was brought into the political world that was so alien to most others. His father grew in fortune as his political capital continued to shoot upwards. By the age of 20, the young man had seen everything there was to see of the political world, so it was no wonder when he was elected to be the local magistrate.

Over the ensuing 10 years, Garick rose from being a town jurist to the lofted position of provincial lawyer. His talents brought him off the bench as justice of the peace, and brought him into the court as a noted attorney for the King’s men. His position as provincial prosecutor, bestowed at the still young age of 30, brought with it immense power, and even more immense challenges. He argued for the public execution of the entire Macguy’s clan of highwaymen. His successful litigation in that case drove King Lionel’s attention to the young attorney, and shortly thereafter Garick rose to be the king’s legal advisor.

As the newly created position of legal counsel was created just for Garick, his control over his power was limited only by the king himself. Garick oversaw the annexation of the neighboring country of Bristol, and helped draft up the constitutional laws regarding those citizens acceptance into society. During the recent border skirmishes late in the year of the circling fish, Garick was given the appellation “the Wise” for his determined efforts to instill justice and order to the farthest reaches of King Lionel’s power.

After the assassination of King Lionel, Garick was appointed regent to rule in the stead of Lionel the Younger, who at the age of 13 suffered a mysterious illness that left him severely retarded. Rather than preside over a power grab between the noblemen of the council, Garick issued a decree that outlawed arms in the newly renamed Lionel city. As the king laid in state for 47 days, one day for each year he ruled, an attempted coup was stopped by Garick’s guard, and a trial was held. Many of the populous were astounded that Garick would still hold true to the law despite the obvious attempts on his life, but the cool-headed regent presided over the public and perceived fair trial of one Rasnon of Kernt, the alleged ringleader of the attempted coup. Rasnon’s execution was the most widely attended event of that year.

Throughout his life, still modest in length, Garick has been an avid student of linguistics. He's found his knack for being a polyglot has been nothing but a boon to him in his career.

Regent Garick’s most recent work has been the restructuring of the provincial law system. He has personally appointed each province’s leading magistrate and signed the proclamation letters for every town jurist that is currently serving. His legal system is one that is envied the world over, and Regent Garick Lawson the Wise will surely go down in history as one of the most important figures in the legal profession.
