As I begin to tell Peyton's story, I look back on his life, I think his soul was older than his body. Also, as you read this you will see me refer to Peyton as Jellybean. This is because at his first sonogram he looked like a little jellybean. Peyton was also a very sweet baby, so the nickname stuck! My pregnancy was a fairly normal one up till the seventh month. Then I started to have pre-term labor. My doctor put me on partial bed rest for the last two months of my pregnancy. I actually enjoyed being pregnant! I was released from bed rest on a Friday, April 2, 1999. Early in the morning on April 4, 1999 my husband and I headed for the hospital. Joy, our bundle was on his way! We got to the hospital shotly after midnight, 12:00 A.M., Easter Sunday. My labor was fairly short for my first pregnancy. It lasted a total of seven hours and my precious Jellybean was here and in my arms! Peyton James Hite came into the world at 7:34 A.M., weighing 6 lbs 12 ozs and measuring 19-1/2 inches long. He had brown hair and blue eyes. Like all newborns, he looked like an angel! Who would have guessed that in seven short months he would be my little SIDS Angel! Peyton was born on April 4, 1999 and went to heaven on October 22, 1999. That was on a Friday. If someone would have told me that Peyton would be taken from me so soon I would have called them a liar.

He had never been sick a day in his life. As a matter of fact he was perfectly healthy. That Friday was a normal day with the exception that we were running late. I dropped Peyton off at Ann's, our wonderful baby-sitter. I told him I loved him, gave him a kiss and a hug. He turned to Ann with open arms and a huge smile! I have to thank Ann for being a wonderful friend and a source of great support! We have become great friends over the last few years. How was I supposed to know that it would be the last time I would see my Jellybean alive! At 11:00 A.M. I got, "THE CALL," at work! At first I thought it was about my husband. Maybe he had gotten hurt at work. Then the lady on the other end asked if I had a baby boy about 6-1/2 months named Peyton. My heart sank! I was not prepared for what I was about to find out. On the way to the hospital I was thinking that he had just been hurt but never in my wildest dreams did I ever think SIDS! I got to the E.R. to find my husband and my in-laws waiting for me. I knew as soon as I saw my husbands face that our Jellybean was gone. My beautiful baby boy stolen from my arms! The E.R. staff finally let us go back to see Peyton. My little Jellybean lying there on the bed with an iv in his chubby little leg. He looked like he was sleeping. I finally got to hold him. One of the last times I would get to hold Peyton in my life! A little later the M.E. came to ask us if we had considered organ donation. We talked it over and decided we would donate Peyton's heart vavles.

Peyton's life had ended but this way the most giving part of him would live on! We did find out a year later that a baby girl down in Florida got one of Peyton's heart valves. She is a year and seven days younger than Peyton. In the time that has passed a lot has happened in our family. Two of which are Peyton's little brothers. Colin Charles who was born in August 2000 and David James who was born in May 2002. So Peyton's story does have a happy ending. Peyton will forever be missed but always in our hearts!

I want to thank my family for supporting me in doing this tribute for Peyton. Also, THANK YOU Ann for not pushing me away when I so desprately needed you to be my friend after everything that had happened. You took such great care of Peyton. I know he and Dylan are great friends just like their Mommies! I love you all and I could not have done this without your support!! Love Jody!
