Dedicated to maintaining open green space in the downtown neighborhoods of urban Jersey City, New Jersey, we support all aspects of community food, urban forestry and ornamental gardening. Thanks to a lot of hard work by our volunteer gardeners, our "Scorpions" Community Gardening Project transformed a vacant, debris-ridden corner lot that had become an eyesore, into a flowering, food-producing focalpoint of pride for the entire neighborhood. That lot at 5th and Coles was lost to development in 2000 but we remember our good times there fondly.

We are now anxiously approaching our next growing season at our "permanent" site, next to the Sixth Street Historic Railroad Embankment on Brunswick Street in downtown Jersey City. Much work needs to be done to get ready for the upcoming growing season and plots are available for vegetable farming and flower gardening. During the summer months, we hope to maintain a regular schedule when the garden will be open. Contact us for the hours operation, or pass by and see if one of our gardeners is working. Call or e-mail us for more information on the garden and becoming a member.
