EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
Platform Software Developer
1997 – 2002
HAHT Commerce, Raleigh, NC
Designed and developed J2EE platform software tools used to create e-Business web applications. Participated in activities
throughout the product lifecycle by working with documentation, quality assurance, technical support, and sales
departments.
- Delivered a critical component of our JDBC rapid application development technology to retrieve the schema of a
database and present it to the developer as software design elements. The schema information was used for rapid creation of
database bound forms and reports, and in XML mapping technology.
- Designed and implemented connection pooling component for JDBC and SAP connections. The open design made it easy to add
support for J.D. Edwards connections after implementation was complete. Supported failure detection, aging, and
minimum/maximum pool size thresholds.
- Implemented the user interface for a web-based expense reporting application. I consistently stayed ahead of schedule,
allowing me to do platform C++ and Java development in parallel.
- Designed and developed a system supporting the exchange of information between the design-time workbench and run-time
server using XML.
- Periodically taught a weeklong class on developing Java web applications to customers that resulted in effective HAHTsite
developers and direct revenue for the company. Received consistently high evaluations from the students.
- Worked well with others in a team of 15 Java/C++ developers.

Quality Assurance Engineer (part-time)
1996 – 1997
HAHT Commerce, Raleigh, NC
- Developed automated test software using QA Partner. This reduced the length of the test cycle allowing new versions to
be released sooner.
- Created and executed test plans to uncover defects in the company’s products.
Software Developer (part-time)
1994 – 1996
North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC
- Designed and developed a Windows client in C++ for a new product called TOADS. TOADS was based on the telnet
protocol with extensions that are similar to HTML. Every school in the college of engineering used this software.
- Reworked parts of our TOADS client/server protocol to be more efficient and less error-prone, resulting in a more
productive system.
- Designed and tested database applications to manage the college of engineering’s multi-million dollar scholarship
database using Sybase, Powerbuilder, and Perl.
Technical Support Representative (part-time)
1993 – 1994
Q+E Software, Raleigh, NC
- Solved customer problems regarding the use of database connectivity software, leading to higher overall customer
satisfaction.
- Developed interactive Windows SQL test software in C++. I saw the need for this project and obtained authorization to
work on it parallel to my customer support duties. The software was quickly adopted as a standard throughout the company.
It used abstract classes I wrote to allow building the software for both Windows and OS/2.
