| The Order is committed to continuing Druid wisdom through teaching, ritual and other practical and spiritual work. It holds learning circles, makes information accessible, develops reading lists, treatises and other publications and conducts ceremonies.
The Order celebrates four festivals with formal rituals around the year-wheel, namely: Imbolc, Beltaine, Lughnassadh and Samhain; with the equinoxes and solstices being celebrated however the individual order members desire. The Druid Order of the Sacred Grove recognizes and respects the many Orders of Druids and other groups teaching the native European traditions around the world, but is not affiliated with any of them. The Order is autonomous and sovereign unto itself and draws its power from the wellspring of earthly wisdom as it is revealed through the Gods and their priests, the Druids. There is absolute equality in the Order. Like the trees, the members of the Order are who they are through their inner nature, and none is lesser or greater for it. Each Druid stands equally in the Grove, manifesting power from within, contributing to the power of the whole. The Druid Order of the Sacred Grove upholds the pursuit of truth, the sanctity of the self, natural virtue, self-responsibility and earth veneration. It supports civic duty, social diversity and feminine-masculine balance. It respects the right of all people everywhere to their own spiritual paths. The Order studies traditions of the Celtic and Pagan past while being aware of the romance attached to them. It understands that much of what is known as “Druidism” is an invention of recent centuries. The Order aims to remain true to the existing Celtic source material and to promote critical research of it, but is not confined by it. The Order remembers the past and draws inspiration from it, while incorporating the advantages of the present to create a new synthesis of druidic practice. The Order recognizes the role of the Druids in today‘s society. The path of a Druid is one of self sacrifice, of dedication to the Gods, of service to the tribe, and of stewardship of the land. Druids do not choose the life that they lead. They are called by the Gods to serve, and in serving the Gods, the tribe is cared for. It is not an easy road, being a Druid. Many times you are called upon to sacrifice your needs for the benefit of the tribe. Many who start on this path do not complete it in this lifetime. Others find that they are called to a different vocation, such as a Bard or an Ovydd. While it is the most difficult path to tread, it is also one of the most fulfilling. So do not lose heart, the Gods will comfort you. We seek the wisdom of our Ancestors... Not so we may walk where they have, But so we may pick up their torch And continue forward! |
