ABOUT ME:

I am a qualified Exercise Physiologist. I have also been an elite Racewalking Coach now for many years, having written training programs for national champions and medalists, both here in Australia and in the USA. I now also write a training program for one of South Africa's top female racewalkers.

Besides being qualified to Personal Train and Coach, I am also a qualified Massage Therapist. In the past 10 years my clientele have included Olympic and Commonwealth Games athletes. I am also a qualified Mat Pilates Instructor, something  which I have have employed to the benefit of my athletes/clients many times.

PERSONAL TRAINING:

I have now transferred my Coaching skills towards Personal Training, working with a variety of different clients. This includes anyone from beginners to the fit, established client.

I operate as a "Mobile Personal & Group Trainer." This provides the client with a convenient choice of venue, whether this be at home or a nearby park rather than travelling great distances to a gym or studio.

**** Great for stay at home mothers with children, who may otherwise find difficulty with child care facilities at a gym or studio.

As I don't operate from a studio or gym my overheads are low. This means I can operate at a more competitive rate, very convenient for clients.

I provide advice in all facets of fitness. All clients go though a health check to ascertain their suitability towards exercise. I then sit down with the client to discuss their goals. From there I'll design the appropriate training program directed towards those goals.

WHERE I TRAIN :

I work in the Geelong area and can make myself available to suit any schedule. I can work outdoors with a client, or come to their home. I also do mobile group sessions.

COST:

Cost for mobile/ home individual clients is $40 per hour, or $25 per 30 minutes. At a reduced rate 5 and 10 packs can be purchased. Group training cost varies dependent on numbers. Of course the bigger the group  the cheaper it is for each client (max of 6 per group).

Internet training programs are $100 per month, paid in advance, including a minimum one weekly phone and email contact. A 5% discount is available if you pay for 3 months in advance. 10% if you pay for 6 months in advance.

TIPS:

I place a strong emphasis on core stability. Core stability involves the hips, gluteals, deep abdominals (transverse abdominis, pelvic floor), scapula (shoulder blades) and ankles. These core muscles have to work isometrically (constant contraction without relaxation) nearly all day to maintain our posture. If these muscles fatigue due to weakness then the bigger prime moving muscles (eg: quads, hamstrings, psoas) have to compensate, a job they are not designed to. This creates the risk of injury.

All force to produce any movement is designed to be initiated from the core to the "prime moving" muscles, not from the prime moving muscles per se. Without proper core stability, those prime moving muscles then need to both initiate movement and create stability, hence overworking. This leads to muscle imbalance, fatigue, muscle spasm and injury. Think of it as a detour on the road. Rather than taking the normal route to your destination, you have to divert to another route. The same thing happens with a weak core. Rather than force transferring through your core it has to take another route via the prime movers.

One of the major compensating muscles, the psoas muscle, originates in your lower back, inserts in your upper thigh, and is as thick as your forearm. Therefore, any tightness, spasm, or fatigue in that muscle will pose a huge injury risk through your lower back and pelvis.

These problems can be corrected by Pilates which isolates the core during movement. This isolation forces the nervous system to initiate and activate all movement through the core. This leads to proper functioning of muscles during more compound gymnasium exercises, as well as general everyday movement, something our poor, overworked backs really appreciate!!!!
