This presentation will address some difficulties teachers often face while trying to find appropriate materials to use in the EFL classroom. A large segment of the presentation will focus on how to utilize published materials and design appropriate materials for specific situations. Finally, the presenter will introduce his own attempt to design appropriate materials for the non-intensive nature of most Japanese university classes, and how this resulted in his writing of the textbook series, What About You?

July

Fluency and Accuracy, Fun and Artistry
Speaker: Kris Bayne

Sunday, July 27th, 14:00 - 16:30

This workshop will introduce a versatile approach that combines textbook and 'free-style' activities with role plays to promote fluency and accuracy. It will show how textbooks can be adapted to lay the foundation for extended group role plays. This will be the third in a series of EfJET (English for Japanese English Teachers) workshops. Teaching methods will be demonstrated as an actual lesson for Japanese English teachers. Native speakers of English are invited to observe the demonstration, and join in the discussion afterwards.
