Julie's Breast Cancer Journey
Check out my new website:  www.juliedixon.com
My name is Julie and I live in Sunny Venice, Florida with my loving husband and son. My son is only 4 years old and I am only 39....soon to be 40 this year.  I  started 2005 saying this was definitely going to be our year and it did start that way.

My Journey began on March 8, 2005 when I made an appointment to see my doctor. I had just experienced a pain in my left breast and noticed the breast looked a bit larger than the right. The doctor scheduled me for an ultrasound to have it checked. Unfortunately, they found cancer but scheduled me for a biopsy the following morning to confirm the findings. The surgeon felt that with chemo treatment it would help reduce the area so that I would be able to have surgery to remove it. This would all be discussed later when the results came back.

The following day the biopsy came back and it was confirmed. I was then scheduled to meet with the oncologist the following Monday. He also agreed that an agressive plan of chemo would be done to reduce the cancer so it would be able to be removed. He first wanted to have a PET scan done to confirm we were not dealing with anything else.

The PET scan came back with findings that even the oncologist was not expecting. They have now found small lesions on my spine, rib and pelvis. Of course, this has totally changed our plan of treatment.

Yesterday, I had the surgery to have a port placed in my chest to enable them to administer my treatments and take blood. My veins like to run away from the needles so this was going to be the most comfortable way to start my journey.

I decided since I will lose my hair during chemo that I would at least have control over one aspect of my treatment. I had my four year old pic out a new hairstyle for me so that he could get accustomed to seeing me with shorter hair. He loves the new hairstyle since he can help mommy with the gel and making it spikey. The new picture is below and I want ot thank my girlfriend Milena for doing such a wonderful job.

I am scheduled to have my first treatment on Monday, March 21st. I know I can beat this and for the sake of my family and friends I plan to do just that.
