The Islamic worldview focusses on the importance of knowing the self, on principles of human development, and gives guidelines for mental health and healthy living.
Psychology and Islam are joining hands to help the contributions of this vast body of knowledge find its way into the mainstream of human thought.
A psychotherapy technique, Integration Therapy, has been developed which is one illustration of the confluence of the ideas of humanistic psychology and Islamic thought.
Prison reform, that most difficult of human concerns, has been effected successfully using Integration therapy in the prison setting. Follow this link to find how Islamic theory, person-centered therapy, a social welfare approach, milieu therapy, cognitive therapy, and other approaches were integrated to build healthier, more responsible, and more growth-oriented inmates both inside and outside prison walls. |

The Middle Eastern Psychological Association
Now, for the first time, there is an organization to:
1. Create a forum for psychologists in the Middle East to communicate.
2. Help psychologists explore, research, and articulate the unique psychological characteristics that grow from cultural, regional, and religious diversity in the area.
3. Create a journal for publishing the results of these investigations and thus increasing international understanding of diversity.
4. Establishing standards of education and practice for psychologists in the region, thus assuring quality of practice and education, as well as international standing for regional psychologists.
