The Church of St Mary, Shroton - working today

The Church of St Mary serves the village community of Shroton (or Iwerne Courtney) as part of the "Iwerne benefice" of five parishes – Iwerne Minster, Fontmell Magna, Sutton Waldron and Ashmore, in addition to Shroton.

Please take the time to visit St Mary’s Church – but remember that the church in Shroton is more than a physical building. It is a living fellowship of Christian people who meet here week by week to worship God.

A Festival Concert to celebrate the completion of the restoration of the Organ was held on Sunday 8th July 2001

Shroton church has a fine Organ, which has been completely renovated by John Budgen. The special concert was planned to celebrate completion of the project. For further details - click here:"CONCERT

The Priest in Charge of the Benefice lives in the Rectory, Iwerne Minster. He is assisted in his ministry by an active team, of other clergy and lay people who reside throughout the benefice.

A wide range of services are held regularly throughout the year – from the rites of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer through to modern liturgies and informal childrens’ services. The Parochial Church Council aims to provide something for everyone, embracing the formal and traditional style of worship through to the informal and modern.

Children are very welcome to all of our services, when there is a special area for them. Once a month during our Parish Communion, we have a Sunday School, and occasional holiday clubs are arranged.

As a group of Christian people, the Church supports a number of charities with annual donations, while collections at special services are often donated to special causes.

  • There are a number of Lay Pastoral Assistants (LPA’s) in the village who will willingly visit, support or pray for anyone who would like it.
  • There is a regular homegroup that meets during the week to provide a Christian forum for discussion, support and prayer.
  • Any emergency prayer requests can be given to a church warden, who will set a Prayer-chain in action.

We believe in God the Father, who created the world;

We believe in Jesus Christ, His Son, through whom we can receive forgiveness and be put right with God;

We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is the presence of God in the world today.

We believe in a God who loves us all and who wants us to love Him in return.

Our response to His love is of fundamental importance to us all, and one that should not be put off. So, do linger in church to say a prayer, or come to one of our services soon!
