The purpose of separating the participants into two groups (one in the preserved areas, the other in the town) was to emphasize the importance of human presence in El Valle. The students performed a variety of experiments ranging from the acceleration due to gravity at El Valle's altitude to investigating biological indicators. The IB Group Four Project was held in El Valle de Anton, Panama. This location was visited on September 18-20, 2003. Experiments were performed in the fields of Physics, Biology and Chemistry. The participants were divided into two groups that experimetned in two different sites in El Valle. The first group experimented in the rivers of the preserved El Valle forests. The second group experimented in the small town of El Valle.
