Berlin Then and Now
THE BOOK for anyone interested in modern Berlin History. Chronicling the history of Berlin, this book charts the Communist-Nazi struggle of the Weimar Republic; the "Thousand Year Reich" with its penchant for show and architectural grandeur which transformed the city; and its consequent battering by the Allies and the Soviets by air and land respectively. The city's position as the central point of the Cold War is examined, focusing on the partition, and eventual reunion, of East and West.

The Berlin Wall 1989 - A photographic documentation. Atmospheric black and white photos. Following lengthy negotiations with the former East German border troops, shortly after November 9, 1989 Matthias Kupfernagel was granted the opportunity to work on a photo documentation. The work has been aimed at reflecting the Berlin Wall before its demolition with all its facets, as complete as it still was at that time.

While studying in Berlin between 1986 and 1988 Takahisa Matsuura's had the opportunity to walk the full length of the Berlin Wall. He took these photographs of the Wall just prior to the fall of East Germany.

"The Lost Border" is a series of photos taken by Brian Rose documenting the now-defunct Iron Curtain, the infamous wall that divided East and West Germany. Rose spent nearly ten years photographing this project and has done a wonderful job capturing this Cold War ruin and its environment.

From 1984 to 1987 Matthias Hoffmann completed a walking tour of The Wall that separated East and West Berlin—a total of 160 kilometres in 24 sections on the ‘West’ side—taking photographs along the way.
