Winter Holiday to Robe

July 5-12, 2003

Feeding the Seagulls

Ken and Linda have a soft spot for wildlife. This silver gull at Meningie had somehow lost both feet, and loved Jatz biscuits. Click the image to help feed the gulls.

Mount Schank

Climb with us to the top of Mt Schank (156m). The steep walk to the rim of this extinct volcano provides panoramic views and an insight into fascinating volcanic history.

Robe is a popular and picturesque tourist destination approximately 350 km south-east from Adelaide. Robe was once the third largest port in South Australia and today is famous for lobster, local food, wine experiences and heritage. We used Robe as a base to visit many interesting places.

Highlights of our holiday included:

  • Panoramic views from Beacon Hill Lookout

  • Exploring the coastal dunes Little Dip Conservation Park

  • Walking to the Obelisk at Cape Dombey - a local landmark since 1855

  • Visiting the cemetery to see tombstones of early pioneers

  • Viewing the monument paying tribute to the Chinese Gold Diggers

  • Indulging in fresh fish and chips

  • Climbing the extinct volcano at Mt Schank near Port MacDonnell

  • Visiting the Blue Lake at Mt Gambier

  • Meeting the winemaker at Mt Benson winery

  • Sampling award winning wines at Coonawarra wineries near Penola
