I have covered near enough all of main Zelda games. These are: LoZ, AoL, aLttP, LA, OoT, MM and WW. Version 0.50 (14/04/05) - This is my first start at this FAQ so everything is new. I've completed a lot of the earlier core games. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Introduction and Opening Statement [A.3] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This FAQ is designed to look at different sources that can be considered as canon so that readers can gain a better idea of the Zelda storyline without having to search through loads of text dumps and instruction booklets. This can sometimes become problematic, as there is a large question mark over what should be considered as canon by different people. In order to counter this problem I have decided to split up the information for each game into separate sections in terms of their source. This way, if you do not consider a certain source as being canon, you can ignore it. Having said that, there are certain sources that are not considered canon at all, and have therefore not been covered in the guide. These are the Philips CD-i games, and all extended media (i.e. TV shows, comics and books) that were licensed by Nintendo to other companies. The FAQ favours information from the Japanese release of the game over that of the English release. This is because the Japanese versions do not suffer from translation errors like the English versions do. Hence, if something is written in the English version that isn’t supported in the Japanese version, it is not considered as canon. An example of this is the name Ganondorf Dragmire, given in the English aLttP game manual. This isn’t supported in the Japanese version, and hence isn’t considered to be his actual name as far as the canon is concerned. ******************************************************************************* *********************** SECTION B - THE LEGEND OF ZELDA ********************** ******************************************************************************* -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Instruction Booklet [B.1] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This information has been summarised from a translation of the Japanese manual. Preliminary Information [B.1.1] Location: A little kingdom located in the Hyrule region i.e. this is a part of Hyrule. Time: When the world was still in an age of confusion. Nothing else is known. Triforce Pieces at the start: Ganon steals the ToP from the Kingdom with the help of his army at the start of the story. The ToW is hidden by the Princess Zelda, in fear of wicked rule by Ganon. The ToC is not mentioned at all throughout the game. Story [B.1.2] Ganon and his army stole the ToP from a Kingdom in Hyrule. The Princess Zelda divided the Triforce into 8 pieces and hid them across the land. She then asked Impa to find someone with the courage to beat Ganon. Ganon seized Zelda and sent guards to imprison Impa. However, before they could finish Impa, they were defeated by Link. Impa told the whole story to Link who then took the challenge of saving the Princess. However, he had to first gather the pieces of the ToW in order to fight his way to Death Mountain. Facts [B.1.3] Ganon is referred to as the ‘Great Demon King’ or ‘Big Devil King’. Impa is Zelda’s nursing mother, and most trusted person. ENDING: "You are great, you have an amazing wisdom and power." ******************************************************************************* ******************** SECTION C - THE ADVENTURE OF LINK ************************ ******************************************************************************* -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Instruction Booklet [C.1] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This information has been summarised from a translation of the Japanese manual. Preliminary Information [C.1.1] Location: Hyrule. Time: Set many seasons after Link defeated Ganon, rescued Zelda, and took back the Triforce. Hyrule is now in ruins due to the power left behind by Ganon. Triforce Pieces at the start: The ToP and the ToW seem to be in Link’s possession. The ToC is hidden in the Great Temple. Story [C.1.2] Link has remained in the little Kingdom to help reconstruct Hyrule. A mysterious birthmark then surfaces on the back of his left hand that resembles the crest of the Kingdom near his 16th birthday. Link shows this to Impa who in response leads him to a 'door that does not open’ in the North Castle. Behind the door is a large altar where a princess named Zelda is sleeping due to a spell cast generations ago. Impa tells Link the legend of Zelda that was handed down in Hyrule. She then gives Link a scroll with the crest of the Kingdom on it, along with 6 small crystals from a stand next to the altar. These had been set aside by the Impa family for many generations, to prepare for the next time a great King will come. The text is written in an ancient script that only Link could read as he carried the crest. It contained the key to uniting the Triforce. After reading the scroll, Impa asked Link if he would complete the Triforce and thus save Zelda. Link left the room carrying a Magical Sword in his left hand, and a Magical Shield in his right hand. Meanwhile, Ganon's underlings were calling up fresh footmen from the Makai / World of Spirits / Hell / Dark World / Evil Realm, and had begun work on Ganon's revival. Sleeping Zelda (as told by Impa) [C.1.2.1] The story takes place in the past, during a time when Hyrule was one country. It's said that the King at the time used the Triforce to maintain order in Hyrule. When the King died, the Prince should have inherited the Triforce but could only do so in part. It is not said how much of the Triforce the Prince inherited. A magician who was one of the King’s aids, heard about the King telling Princess Zelda about the Triforce before he died, and told the Prince. The Prince questioned Zelda but she didn’t speak. Hence the magician threatened Zelda with a spell that would put her into eternal sleep. She still didn’t talk and so the magician cast the spell in anger. The prince tried to stop him, but was fought off. Zelda fell asleep on the spot. It is said that the magician also fell at that place and died at the same time. The Prince placed Princess Zelda in the room she is currently in. The Prince then ordered that coming generations of girls in the Royal Family be named Zelda. The Scroll (written by the King) [C.1.2.2] About the Triforce in general: There are three kinds of Triforce, namely, power, wisdom and courage. Link is likely to be the one that will control the Triforce of the future. Only those with a heart free of evil, a strong character, and special innate qualities can control the Triforce. The King who wrote the scroll could not find such a person during his lifetime and hence he cast a magical spell on all of Hyrule so that a crest would appear on the person with those qualities, who has been raised correctly, picked up various experiences, and is of a certain age. It is possible that another person can use the Triforce before this happens, and if misused, will produce various evils. Specific to when the scroll was written: Power and Wisdom were left in the Kingdom but the King hid the Triforce of Courage in the Great Temple at the "Valley of Death" on the biggest island in Hyrule. The King made guardian deities to protect the six temples in Hyrule, as they created a barrier on Death Valley. To break the barrier and enter the Great Temple it is necessary to defeat the guardian deities, and place the crystals in the statues inside all six temples. The Triforce can be obtained once the guardian deity in the Great Temple has been defeated. Facts [C.1.3] Ganon can be revived by his underlings if the blood of the person who defeated him (in this case Link), is sprinkled on his ashes. Only the descendants of the Impa family know how to open the door to Sleeping Zelda’s room. This was done by pushing the back of Link’s hand against the door. The sleeping princess is the ‘first generation’ or ‘founding’ Princess Zelda. Link was unfamiliar with the text in the scroll but it was as if the characters spoke out to him. The Triforce can be used to break the sleep curse of the wizard. Main Characters [C.1.4] Link Princess Zelda Impa Ganon Evil Wizard The King of Hyrule Prince -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Game [C.2] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ending [C.2.1] Link holds the Triforce he has just received above his head. The Triforce piece then becomes 3 pieces and the room flashes, bringing Link back to the room Zelda was sleeping in. Zelda wakes up and gives Link a kiss. Triforce Pieces at the end: Link finds the ToC in the Great Temple. An old man was keeping it. Link controls the whole Triforce. Important Items [C.2.2] Boots – These allow the wearer to walk over water. Flute - When played unlocks the legendary mysterious music of Hyrule and rouses old powers. Preliminary Information [D.1.1] Location: The kingdom of Hyrule and the Sacred Realm / Dark World. Time: Set after the Seal / Imprisoning War and seemingly before LoZ and AoL. Triforce Pieces at the start: Ganon has the Triforce, though it is not stated if in part or in full. Story [D.1.2] Link is awakened by a girl speaking in his head. She says, "Help me.... My name is Zelda.... I am being held in the castle's underground prison....". Link sits up to find his uncle preparing to leave during dusk, even though he is usually asleep at this time. He tells Link not to leave the house. As the rain falls during the night, the Legend of Zelda begins. Hylians [D.1.2.1] The Hylians were chosen people who could hear the gods and were close to them. They were capable of hearing the voices of the gods and hence have high ears, unsurpassed senses, and the ability to use magic. The name Hyrule is derived from the word Hylian, and is an area tied to myth. It is where many Hylian relics have been left. They left books for their descendants about their magic, prophecies and the 3 gods (one of power, one of wisdom and one of courage). The Gods [D.1.2.2] The gods came to the world when there was only chaos, and created order and life. The god of power used flame to dye the mountains red and make the earth. The god of wisdom made science and magic, and gave the land natural order. The god of courage used both kindness and strength of heart to create all living creatures. After finishing their work, the gods left behind a symbol forged of their own power in the form of a sacred, golden triangle called the Triforce, which would govern the land. They then left. The Triforce [D.1.2.3] The Triforce consists of three different symbols: the Ruler of Power, the Administrator of Wisdom and the Forger of Courage. It was left to shine in a holy place somewhere in the world until the appropriate person worthy of those powers would claim it. It is said that ‘There exists a golden power from the heavens (gods’ land). Whoever shall touch it will be granted a wish from the gods’. The Triforce itself cannot judge between good and evil, only the gods can. However, it cannot be assumed that only a good person would find the Triforce. Hence, the gods told the people of Hyrule to make something that would repulse any evil that may kidnap the Triforce. The blade of evil's bane was forged. It was called the Master Sword and only a true hero could wield it. Though no one had found the Triforce, there were rumours that it was below the ruins of the desert, or in the graves of the high mountain people. Blood was often shed for information. One day, a group of thieves opened the entrance to the Sacred Realm by chance. The Triforce was found resting in the Sacred Realm, which is a different world. The group pushed past one another, but after a struggle the group leader won. His name was Ganondorf, commonly known as Ganon of the race of evil thieves. He touched the Triforce with his bloodstained hands, and their spirits began to speak. ‘If thou has a strong desire or dream, I shall desire it also’. He laughed and his laugh echoed across time and space and even to the far away land of Hyrule. None know what he wished for. This was the start / birth of the evil King Ganon. The Sacred Realm, where the Triforce is, has been changed into the Dark World due to Ganon's desires. However, Ganon wants the Light World to be his as well. The Seal / Imprisoning War [D.1.2.4] Ganon’s evil ‘chi’ made it to Hyrule causing many greedy people to vanish. The skies grew dark, and many disasters beset Hyrule. Hence, the King sent for the seven sages living in Hyrule, as well as the Knights, and ordered them to seal the source of evil. The Sages searched for the Master Sword and a hero that could handle the sword. However, the situation was urgent, and Ganon's malice was enclosing on the royal palace. The Sages and Knights held a heroic battle with the evil one. The Knights perished, but gave the Sages enough time to complete the seal. Hyrule celebrated. The Priest [D.1.2.5] Peace existed in Hyrule for several centuries after the Seal / Imprisoning War. Then one day, disease and droughts started that could not be stopped by magic. The seal was studied (it is not stated who by), but there had been no change. People started praying to the gods. A man named Agahnim appeared, and ended the catastrophes with mysterious magic. The people called him a hero and the King proclaimed him to be the second coming / reincarnation of the seven sages. He appointed him priest, and invited him to the castle. Peace had returned. However, Aganhim began to govern Hyrule in place of the King, abusing his power. Rumour is he plans to take the crown, and is performing suspicious ceremonies. He is doing a good job with helping to sacrifice of the sages’ maiden descendants. Facts [D.1.3] This game features the same evil King Ganon from LoZ. The seal will break if the maidens (descendants of the seven sages) are sacrificed. Main Characters [D.1.4] Link Princess Zelda Ganon Agahnim The King of Hyrule Link's Uncle Sahasrala -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Game [D.2] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ending [D.2.1] Link uses the whole Triforce. The Triforce doesn't feature in this game. Story [E.1.2] Link decided to journey away from Hyrule on a quest for enlightenment and wisdom. He was returning to his voyage when his ship was reduced to splinters. Link woke up on the shores of Koholint Island with a woman named Marin by his side. The island had a gigantic egg in its central mountain. It is said a mythical creature named the Wind Fish, lay asleep inside the egg. Whilst recovering his sword, Link encountered a talking owl, which told him "Awaken the Wind Fish and all will be answered" Facts [E.1.3] Link is already acquainted with Princess Zelda though she isn't in this game. Link had already fulfilled the Hyrulian prophecy of the Legendary Hero and has slain Ganon. There are many questions in Hyrule of what may arise from Ganon's ashes. The Wind Fish then wakes up with Link, and the Island disappears all except in memory. Link finds himself holding onto the remains of a ship in the sea. He looks to the sun and sees the Wind Fish fly overhead. If the game is completed without losing a life, Marin is granted her wish of becoming a seagull, so she can fly to distant lands. Preliminary Information [F.1.1] Location: In Hyrule Time: Set shortly after a fierce war had concluded. Triforce Pieces at the start: The Triforce is in the Sacred Realm. Story [F.1.2] Link had the same nightmare every night, where he finds himself standing in front of a castle during a storm. A rider on horseback, carrying a girl, would race by. Then another rider in black would appear. Link would then awaken. Navi the fairy was sent to summon Link to the Great Deku Tree. The Great Deku Trees sleep had been full of nightmares and restless over the past moons. He told Link of a vile climate which pervades the world, and that the time has come for him to test his courage. The Deku Tree had been cursed and needed Link to break it. Link enters the Great Deku Tree and breaks the curse. The Great Deku Tree tells Link of a man from the desert who cast the curse on him. He explained that this man is searching for the Sacred Realm connected to Hyrule. The Deku Tree insisted that Link must never allow that man to enter the Sacred Realm of Legend, and that Link should now go to Hyrule Castle to meet the Princess of Destiny and present to her the Spiritual Stone of the forest, which The Great Deku Tree gave Link before dying. The Goddesses [F.1.2.1] Three golden goddesses descended upon the chaotic land of Hyrule before life began or the world had formed. They were Din, the goddess of power, Nayru, the goddess of wisdom and Farore, the goddess of courage. Din, cultivated the land to create the earth with her strong flaming arms. Nayru poured her wisdom onto the earth to give the spirit of law to the world. Farore created all life forms who would uphold the law with her rich soul. These three goddesses returned to the heavens, leaving behind the golden sacred Triforce. Since then, the Triforce has become the basis for Hyrule's providence. Where the Triforce stood became a sacred land. Facts [F.1.3] The Great Deku Tree serves as a guardian spirit in the deep forest of Hyrule. The Kokiri are known as children of the forest, and live with the Great Deku Tree. Each Kokiri had his or her own guardian fairy. Whoever holds the Triforce can make their wishes come true. Main Characters [F.1.4] Link Princess Zelda / Sheik Impa Ganondorf / Ganon Malon Talon Epona Navi King Zora Lord Jabu-Jabu The Deku Tree Mido Rauru Saria Darunia Princess Ruto Nabooru -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Game [F.2] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ending [F.2.1] The sages use their powers to send Ganon into the void of the Evil Realm. Ganon is seen floating with the ToP still in his hand, vowing to exterminate the descendants of Link, Zelda and the sages. Zelda tells Link that he must lay the MS to rest and close the door of time, thus closing the road between times. She then takes the OoT from Link and returns him to his original time with it. A celebration is shown, still in the adult part of the game, with most of the characters from the game. 5 of the sages watch from Death Mountain. A young Link is shown in the ToT next to the MS whilst it is in the pedestal. The door of time is open, and Link is not wearing the Goron Bracelet. Navi then leaves Link through a window inside the temple. Link walks towards Princess Zelda as she is peeking through the window in Hyrule courtyard, similar to when they first met. She turns to look at Link, who has the ToC flickering on his hand. Triforce Pieces at the end: Young Link seems to have the ToC at the end. It is implied, though unconfirmed that young Zelda has the ToW at the end. Ganondorf has the ToP at the end. Important Items [F.2.2] Kokiri Sword - Found early in the game. But the entrance is sealed with a stone wall called the Door of Time. And, in order to open the door, it is said that you need to collect three Spiritual Stones. And another thing you need...is the treasure that the Royal Family keeps along with this legend... The Ocarina of Time!" RAURU: "Ages ago, we ancient Sages built the Temple of Time to protect the entrance to the Sacred Realm..." RAURU: "This is the Chamber of Sages, inside the Temple of Light... If an evil heart, the Realm will become full of evil; if pure, the Realm will become a paradise." T H E T R I F O R C E DEKU TREE: "Golden sacred triangles remained at the point where the goddesses left the world. Since then, the sacred triangles have become the basis of our world's providence." ZELDA: "The three goddesses hid the Triforce containing the power of the gods somewhere in Hyrule. The power to grant the wish of the one who holds the Triforce in his hands. If someone with a righteous heart makes a wish, it will lead Hyrule to a golden age of prosperity... If someone with an evil mind has his wish granted, the world will be consumed by evil... That is what has been told... So, the ancient Sages built the Temple of Time to protect the Triforce from evil ones." SHEIK: "The Triforce...the sacred triangle... it is a balance that weighs the three forces: Power, Wisdom and Courage. If the heart of the one who holds the sacred triangle has all three forces in balance, that one will gain the True Force to govern all. But, if that one's heart is not in balance, the Triforce will separate into three parts: Power, Wisdom and Courage. Only one part will remain for the one who touched the Triforce...the part representing the force that one most believes in. If that one seeks the True Force, that one must acquire the two lost parts. Those two parts will be held within others chosen by destiny, who will bear the Triforce mark on the backs of their hands." GANONDORF: "The Triforce parts are resonating. But when he laid his hands on the Triforce, the legend came true. The Triforce separated into three parts. Only the Triforce of Power remained in Ganondorf's hand." The strength of the Triforce of Power enabled him to become a mighty, evil king, but his dark ambitions were not satisfied. To gain complete mastery of the world, Ganondorf started looking for those chosen by destiny to hold the two other Triforce parts." SHEIK/ZELDA: "After you opened the door of time, the Master Sword sealed you away in the Sacred Realm... Your spirit remained in the Sacred Realm...and then the Triforce fell into Ganondorf's hands. He went on to invade the Sacred Realm... Ganondorf had become the Evil King, and the Sacred Realm became a world of evil. All of this is an unfortunate coincidence." T H E S A G E S RAURU: "I am Rauru, one of the ancient Sages..." RAURU: "My power now has only little influence, even in this Sacred Realm... Namely, this Chamber of Sages. But there is still hope... The power of the Sages remains. When the power of all the Sages is awakened... The Sages' Seals will contain all the evil power in the void of the Realm..." SHEIK: "When evil rules all, an awakening voice from the Sacred Realm will call those destined to be Sages, who dwell in the five temples. One in a deep forest... One on a high mountain... One under a vast lake... One within the house of the dead... One inside a goddess of the sand... Together with the Hero of Time, the awakened ones will bind the evil and return the light of peace to the world... This is the legend of the temples passed down by my people, the Sheikah." Quotes [H.2.5] H E R O O F T I M E GRANDMA: "Well, today is the day we commemorate the fact that you've reach the same age as the hero of the legends!" "In the olden days, this was the day boys were finally considered to be men. They were taught the ways of the sword to prepare them for battle with their enemies." DEKU TREE: "So...you are not the Hero of Time. KING: "The one I have brought with me has no connection to the legendary one. And yet I sense great promise in the courage that this one possesses." GANON: "Yes, surely you are the Hero of Time, reborn..." M A S T E R S W O R D KING: "It is none other than the Master Sword... The blade of evil's bane." "It is the only sword that can banish Ganon from the world above!" ITEM: "You got the Master Sword! The legendary blade with the power to repel evil...once wielded by the legendary hero himself!" TETRA: "...That sword! Where did you get that?! Are you... Is it even possible...? ...How could it be?" GANON: "By the way, boy... When you drew that sword of yours out of its pedestal... Foolish child. While that sword is indeed the blade of evil's bane, at the same time, it has long played another role... You see, it is also a sort of key... a most wretched little key that has kept the seal on me and my magic intact! By withdrawing the blade, you have broken that seal..." GANON: "You cannot defeat me with a blade that does not sparkle with the power to repel evil! What you hold is useless." LARUTO: "In order to return the power to repel evil to your sword, you must find another to take my stead in this temple and ask the gods for their assistance." ITEM: "The Master Sword has returned! Its blade once again houses the power to repel evil. The sword of the one true hero is revived at last!" O T H E R S W O R D S ORCA: "Since the olden days, this sword has been used to fend off evil..." "Its blade is infused with the desire to become strong and righteous." P E A R L S JABUN: "This jewel should dispel the curse that Ganon has cast upon this land." O T H E R I T E M S KING: "That stone is an enhanced version of the Gossip Stones long spoken of in the legends of the Hyrulian Royal Family. I am the one who made it." ITEM: "You got the Light Arrow! The sacred light of these arrows can pierce pure evil itself!" G A N O N KING: "He who obtained the power of the gods, attempted to cover the land in darkness, and was ultimately sealed away by the very power he hoped to command." KING: "He is the very same Ganon... The emperor of the dark realm the ancient legends speak of... I do not know why the seal of the gods has failed, but now that Ganon has returned, the world is once again being threatened by his evil magic." "Ganon cannot be defeated by human hands, let alone by what little strength you possess." GANON: "My name is Ganondorf... And I am the master of Forsaken Fortress." W I N D KING: "This is the Wind Waker! It is a baton of sorts that was used long ago when the people played music in prayer to the gods." "In those days, simply using it allowed one to borrow the power of the gods, but I do not know if it still works." ZEPHOS: "So, you're the new Wind Waker, are you?" VALOO: "O Hero! Use the wind god's wind!" ZEPHOS: "The name's Zephos. I'm the god of winds." FADO: "That Wind Waker you hold was used long ago to conduct us sages when we played our song to call upon the gods. In those days, it was always the king who conducted for us... Please... Tell the king that I will still play...even in the next world!" R I T O CHIEF: "We do so by the graces of the sky spirit, Valoo. When a Rito reaches adulthood, he or she journeys to the top of Dragon Roost to receive a scale from the great dragon. It is this scale that enables the Rito to grow his or her wings." ITEM: "You got the Grappling Hook! This was an item used by the Rito people before they had wings." ITEM: "You received Din's Pearl! This is the gem the Ritos claim was passed down from the great goddess!" KOROK: "The Forbidden Woods were once our home. They were peaceful back then." KOROK: "Great Deku Tree! This year you have once again produced some splendid seeds! With these seeds, we will continue to spread new forests across the Great Sea." DEKU TREE: "Every year after the Koroks perform this ceremony, they fly off to the distant islands on the sea and plant my seeds in the hopes that new forests will grow." "Forests hold great power--they can change one tiny island into a much larger island. Soon, a day will come when all the islands are one, connected by earth and grove." FIGURINES: "The Deku Tree is both an earth spirit and the guardian of the forest. He has lived for many long years, so his wisdom is vast." T E M P L E O F G O D S KING: "This tower, which the pearls of the gods have caused to appear, is a place that the gods of the ancient world prepared so that they might test the courage of men." K I N G FIGURINES: "The King of Hyrule was unable to protect his kingdom from evil and left its fate up to the gods. The King of Red Lions is merely his disguise." L E G E N D A R Y H E R O SIGN: "Fairy Fountain Site This spot marks the remains of an ancient fairy fountain. "You have controlled the wind and crossed the seas, and here, near the end of your quest, the power of the gods has been bestowed upon you..." "Surely, from this moment on, you shall be known as the Hero of Winds..." GANON: "I have been waiting for you, boy. For one like you... Yes... For the hero." T I N G L E TINGLE: "Hoo hoo hoooooooooo! If my appearance does not surprise you... then you, sir, must be a fairy, just like Tingle!" "Goodness! Did you feel my telepathy?! That's why you saved me, isn't it?" Z E L D A Figurines: "Princess Zelda is the legitimate heir to the Hyrulean royal family. She is actually the pirate Tetra." "Orphaned at a young age, Tetra followed in her mother's footsteps, becoming a pirate and watching after her mother's gang of lovable swabbies." JABUN: "Tell me, Hyrule King... Have you learned the whereabouts of the one who carries on the bloodline of the princess, Zelda?" KING OF RED LIONS: "...I believe I have." JABUN: "That is well. You must protect Zelda. She cannot be permitted to fall into the hands of Ganon." TETRA: "Wh-What?! What are you talking about? I don't know any Zelda..." GANONDORF: "Feigning ignorance will gain you nothing! Tell me... If you are not Zelda, then why do you have this fragment of the Triforce?" KING: "You, too, must abide by the laws of the past...and so the time has come for me to teach you the fate into which you were born, the very reason that you live." (ToW is reunited. Tetra turns into Zelda) ZELDA: "My...fate..." KING: "You are the true heir of the royal family of Hyrule...the last link in the bloodline. You are Princess Zelda." T R I F O R C E GANONDORF: "My Triforce of Power is resonating! Ha! At long last, I have found you... Princess Zelda!" KoRL: "Well done, Link. You must show the Triforce piece you have assembled to the gods." (Link shows it, Triforce of Courage symbol appears on his hand) "There, on your hand--the Triforce piece now dwells within you!" KING: "This necklace you wear is part of a sacred treasure called the Triforce of Wisdom, which has been passed down for many ages within the royal family of Hyrule." Your mother passed this down to you and instructed you to treasure it...and to guard it with your life." KING: "When the Hero of Time was called to embark on another journey and left the land of Hyrule, he was separated from the elements that made him a hero." "It is said that at that time, the Triforce of Courage was split into eight shards and hidden throughout the land." KING: "The Triforce of Wisdom is none other than the sacred power of the gods that we have kept from Ganon's clutches for so many long years." "The gods placed upon your ancestors the task of protecting it from evil's grasp." FIGURINES: "Tetra and her crew are in search of a legendary treasure hidden beneath the waves of the Great Sea." S A G E S KING: "The fact that the Master Sword lost the power to repel evil suggests to me that something has happened to the sages who infused the blade with the gods' power." MEDLI: "Thanks to you, I've been awakened to the knowledge that I'm a sage of the Earth Temple." FADO: "I am Fado of the Kokiri tribe. I know I appear to you as a child, but the eyes can oft deceive. The one who holds this sacred instrument..." LARUTO: "Nothing can stop the flow of time or the passing of generations... but the fate carried within my bloodline endures the ravages of all the years. It survives." M I S C TETRA: "There are all sorts of strange rumors about this place. What I do know is that long ago, it used to be the hideout of a no-good group of pirates we used to compete with..." FIGURINES: "Apparently, these fish were aided long ago by the King of Red Lions, which is why they're now willing to offer Link valuable information." ******************************************************************************* *********************** SECTION I - FURTHER INFORMATION *********************** ******************************************************************************* -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Miscellaneous Questions [I.1] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q1. What about the other games. Why aren't they covered? A1. This FAQ only covers the core games, along with a few supporting adventures. These are LoZ, AoL, aLttP, LA, OoT, MM and WW. I do have plans to expand on this at a later date as a larger FAQ, but for now, this is everything. Q2. What about quotes from the creators, are they not canon? A2. Strictly speaking, no - they're not. However, I do believe that the creators intent in a game do have some bearing on the timeline. If I get a chance in the future, I will try to add a creators quotes section in the FAQ for those that want to consider them. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Credits [I.2] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other than the research I did myself, the following sites were often used. www.zeldalegends.net/ - Main source for the Japanese translations in the FAQ. www.zeldauniverse.net/ - Some of the Zelda information came from this site.
