NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2006 

Dear IKM (Northern Branch) Members,

Please take note that the Annual General Meeting cum Silver Jubilee Celebration of the IKM (Northern Branch) will be held as follows:

We are 25! To commemorate the occasion an elaborate programme has been arranged for you such as a sumptuous Course Dinner inclusive of Presentation of Tokens of Appreciation to past chairmen and long serving committee members, Presentation of Awards to outstanding Chemistry undergraduate and postgraduate students, Souvenir Publication capturing the historical moments, multimedia presentation, live musical entertainment, door gifts and lucky draw will follow the AGM. The Dinner is free of charge to members, spouses and their children. Due to the event being a formal occasion, only children over 12 years of age will be allowed to attend. Accompanying guests will have to pay RM 50.00 per person.  Members who wish to wish to attend the AGM and Silver Jubilee function have to notify the Secretary either by fax, E-mail or postal mail using the reply slip below, latest by 1 March 2006. Kindly include the names of accompanying family members or guests. Do not forget to supply your contact numbers as we need to obtain confirmation from you four (4) days before the function. IKM Northern Branch Talk, Potable Water Treatment and Water Quality in Penang

The talk by Engineer Mak Kok Yun drew an eager crowd of 50 of which

The talk centred on raw water intake, aeration, chemical dosing coagulation/flocculation, sedimentation, clarification, filtration, fluoridation, storage and distribution. Water quality is achieved by compliance to regulatory standards. Regular improvements to household supply are made via a systematic replacement of old galvanized iron and asbestos cement pipes with the latest of mild steel.

Conservation efforts includes public awareness campaign via the media
and open day

at the Botanical Garden Treatment Plant during World Water Day. The followup visit to the Batu Ferringhi Traetment Plant the following day was an eye opener, as expressed by a member.

Lunch was served at the Tropical Spice Garden following a "mooncake" appetiser. The trip was concluded after a stroll through the Garden.
