1754 Poll Book
For
the town of Nottingham.
The Poll Book contains the list of people who were entitled to vote in the 1754 Election for two Burgesses to represent the town of Nottingham in Parliament. It also lists their addresses and Occupations.
There
were three candidates,
Sir
Willoughby ASTON Baronet of Risley, Derbyshire.

represented by the letter A in the indexes)
John
PLUMPTRE Esq. Of Nottingham.
(
represented by the letter P in the indexes)
and
The Right
Honorable George Augustus Lord Viscount HOWE
Of Langar.
(represented
by the letter H in the indexes)
The
voting took place over three days, Thursday 18th April,
Friday 19th of April and Saturday 20th April 1754.
The
result was announced by John FELLOWS and Thomas SANDS, the Sheriffs
of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
The poll
was taken in the Great Room over The New Change in the Market Place,
being the first time of its being used for the purpose.

ASTON
924
PLUMPTRE 915
The first
two being duly elected.
Interestingly
PLUMPTRE received the most votes in Nottingham itself, 725 compared
to ASTON 719 and HOWE only 657.
