3.4 L Toyota V6 (5VZ-FE) Swap for 22RE 4x4 TruckThis page will be updated as I learn more about this swap. Any corrections/info, please email me ( humboldt@marijuana.com ).
Information:
The 5 speed manual transmission from a 3.0L V6 (R150F) will bolt up to the 3.4 L V6.The Toyota 4 cylinder gear driven transfercase is the strongest transfercase. It can be used with the R150F transmission with an adapter from either Marlin Crawler or Inchworm Gear.
The Toyota 4 cylinder transfercase must be converted from a 21 spline input shaft to a 23 spline input shaft for use with V6 transmissions. Marlin Crawler and Inchworm Gear sell 23 spline input shafts. ~$200.
The gear driven transfercase that came with 22R-TE transmissions (R151F) comes stock with 23 splines. These are harder to find.
The 5 speed manual transmission from a 22R-TE (R151F) will work but the bellhousing from a R150F transmission must be used.
The 3.4 L V6 tranny (R150F) can be used but must be converted a to passenger side transfercase. Marlin Crawler sells an adapter.
If using a drivers side transfercase, the differential must be moved to drivers side, i.e. solid axe swap with driver's side differential.
3.4 L radiator can not be used, use a 3 core radiator from 3.0L V6 with automatic transmission.
There are several different oil pans available for 3.4L V6, 2wd T-100 oil pan provides best clearance.
Battery must be moved to opposite side of engine compartment or else where to make room for air intake.
Parts Needed:
Note: This parts list is relative to my truck, a 1994 Toyota 4x4 with 22RE.5VZ-FE 3.4 L V6 from 95.5+ Toyota Tacoma/4Runner, 97-98 T-100, 2000+ Tundra
R150F 5 speed manual transmission from 88-95 3.0L V6
or
3.4 L V6 5 speed manual transmission w/ Marlin adapter to passenger side transfer caseECU and wiring harness from 95.5+ Tacoma
All engine accessories
New motor mounts
3-core radiator from 88-95 automatic transmission V6
Marlin Part# V6T-4CX allows 4cyl gear driven t-case to be bolted to V6 5 speed transmission
23 spline input shaft
Notes:
Best option would be buying a totalled 97+ Tacoma 4x4 with 3.4 L V6, 5 speed manual tranny , and electric locker.
This would have all necessary accessories, wiring harness, ecu, etc.
The rest of the truck could be parted out and would offset much of the cost.
