Welcome
to Internet Marketing at Hickory High School! During the course
of this semester, we will have the opportunity to explore the Internet
and much of what it has to offer to you AND to the business community.
We will examine how the Internet is utilized as both a personal marketing
tool and as a business marketing tool. The end result will be that
you will better understand how to effectively make use of the Internet
as a way to find, attain, and keep a career in Internet Marketing!
The course will be broken down
into four basic parts:
-
The first portion of the course
will be learning the fundamentals.
Before any progress can be made, we must first understand what the Internet
is, what marketing is, why it is important, and fundamental navigational
tactics and strategies.
-
Next comes utilizing
the Internet as a job/career tool. Expanding on the 'traditional'
job seeking strategies and understanding how employers are using the Internet
as an employment tool is critical in maximizing your future job searches.
Understanding what businesses are seeking will give you a competitive edge
in the job market, and will allow you to "open more of the doors" available
to you as a job seeker. In addition, do you know the differences
between 'paper' and 'electronic' resumes? You will soon.
-
Third will be building
fundamental web pages and web sites. Although basic computer
knowledge is a prerequisite for Internet Marketing, no prior Internet experience
is required. We will learn to build basic websites for actual
businesses in this course, and then examine the fundamentals of how
to drive traffic to your site, basic web site design, common website errors,
and other topics relevant to business as they attempt to create a presence
on the World Wide Web.
-
Finally, (and simultaneously with
#3), we will examine basic concepts of the exploding
field of e-commerce, and the role it plays in the world of marketing
in the marketplace today.
Your feedback
is always welcome and encouraged. Now lets go explore...
This
outline will change regularly, so come back and visit often.
