Volkssturm

As Germany's enemies get closer and threathen Germany herself , Hitler called upon all men between 16 and 60 to join the Volkssturm in september 1944 .
These men were the last stand , to defend their ground and to make sure of Germany's victory .
Martin Bormann was in charge of these men .
Not only men , but even women were engaged in the last defence of Germany , this is another promise Hitler broke as he stated in a speech in the 30's that women are no soldiers and will no be used in a military role . These women were used , as FLAK men ... .

The armband these volounteers wore had the writing : Deutscher Volkssturm - Wehrmacht and 2 siding nazi eagles . Every volounteer had to wear this armband , no matter what his role was .
Many of these volounteers never operated a weapon and were given a fast-course in how to use them , these were the K98k Mauser , Panzerfausts etc ... . All should be mastered so that they at least could act like a soldier .
These badly armed soldiers wanna be's were a surprise to the Allied troops , many gave up in battle and surrendered or just disbanded and run any direction they could .
But 15.000 Volkssturmers were putting up a stiff fight on the Eastern Front , years of brainwashing against the Russians and Bolsjewism made many join in pure fear that Russians one day will bring this dreaded Red Terror in their fatherland .

Needless to say , many volounteers died and the bloodtoll of the Volkssturm rose very high .
Mainly because of the lack of military training and decent weapons .
The Volkssturm was disbanded with the regular army at the end of the war .
