Helen Moore
eco-poet, ethical writer and community artist| Helen Moore |
| About Me I am a published writer and poet based near Bath, in Somerset, South West England. With a passion for Nature/the Earth and for attempting to unite the spiritual and the political, I seek through both my poetry, prose-writing and community arts to help shape a healthier and fairer world. My approach might be characterised as 'Art for Earth's Sake', after Resurgence Magazine no. 223. "For art to be relevant, artists must address the social and spiritual issues of our time." Suzi Gablik With a strong teaching, artistic and performance background in Edinburgh and Bath - I am available to give creative writing workshops, which can be tailor-made to a group's requirements, possibly taking an issues-based focus; I also offer workshops in pamphlet poetry making; and I read/perform my poetry, eco-poems and prose fiction at all sorts of community and corporate events where some ethical/green/community vision (preferably all 3!) is shared. Examples of this in 2004 were my work with the Bath-based environment centre, Envolve, launching the sustainably built Eco-pods with a specially-written poem and writing 'Birth in Bath' commemorating their 10th anniversary. In 2005 my work is also taking me further afield... in January I was honoured to perform at Resurgence Magazine's 'Future of Food' conference in London and Triodos, the Bristol-based ethical bank, have commissioned me to write a poem to celebrate their 10th anniversary. And most recently, I was very honoured to perform - superbly accompanied by Chris Johnstone on hammer dulcimer - at 'The Great Turning', Joanna Macy's lecture at Bath University. As a modern Bard, my aim is to bridge the written and spoken worlds of poetry and I enjoy performing my work as much as creating my pamphlet poetry books. They try to be both aesthetic (artist's books) and eco-friendly objects, intended to give people pleasure in private moments. I especially acknowledge our native British tradition for much of my inspiration and seek to raise awareness of this neglected part of our heritage.
