Myself and another fellow are, Ok Ok Ok STILL attempting to sink a 366 ft Ex WW2 ship in Powell River.Her name is the Quartz, an un-engined supply ship that was towed about the oceans. Post WW2 she was involve at the atomic tests at Bikini Atoll in the South pacific. She was purchased by the Powell River Paper Company and used as a floating Breakwater to protect logs from stormy seas. She is no longer need for this purpose. So we have offer to give another task. An artifical reef and underwater playground. We will sink her so that novice divers can visit her with depths starting at 40 feet.
With the community, we will also be sinking 4 "Community Expression Sites" these will be sculptures or presentaions submitted by various groups in Powell River.
For a community so much needind to re-start their tourism. I have some resistance. I feel it's all politics. Selve serving politics. We had the support of a Econamic Delelopment Society. But that evaporated. Why? Like I said selve serving politics. This will slow the project but not stop it. So let us hope that level heads prevail and we can boost Powell River's economy and also give the divers a great new destination.
The project is staled to What I view as Political interference with personal gain in mind. Just my view.
But good ideas die when morons get involved.
