Submarine Veterans

I am pleased to announce that the State of Connecticut, Department of Motor Vehicles has approved our application for a "Special Plate" for members of Submarine Veterans - Groton Base." To purchase this plate, you must be a member in good standing (meaning your dues for the year must be paid and be listed as a member in our database), with a vehicle registered in the State of Connecticut in your name.

These Plates are available for the following types of registrations: Passenger, Commercial, Combination, Camper, Camp Trailer, and Handicapped. You must maintain the same type as on your current registration.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT PRIOR TO APPLYING FOR A SUBMARINE VETERANS LICENCE PLATE, YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST BE A MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING FOR YEAR 2002. YOU MAY RENEW YOUR 2002 DUES BEFORE, OR AT THE SAME TIME YOU ARE REQUESTING YOUR SPECIAL LICENCE PLATE. DUES MUST BE A SEPARATE CHECK MADE TO USSVI.

All applications must be submitted to USSVI Groton Base Secretary, PW Louthain, our liaison. Do not send application to DMV. Base Secretary must verify, sign, and mail the application with your Check. Checks are made payable to DMV.
To obtain your application for a Submarine Veterans Special Plate by mail, please send a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE) to:

The application process is simple. The "Special Interest Plate Application" is an 8.5 x 3.5 card with 3 lines of instructions.

  1. FIRST RENEW YOUR DUES FOR SUBVETS FOR 2002.
  2. Complete this application and return it to your organization liaison with your check or money order for the amount payable to "DMV". Do not send cash.
  3. Organization liaison submit the approved application along with applicant check or money order to : Department of Motor Vehicles, Special Interest Plate Unit, 60 State Street, Wethersfield, CT 06161-0507.
  4. LEASED VEHICLES - Submit with the application the lesses' name and address.

There are three types of transfers to choose from.

*Transfer my vanity, low number, or current marker plate to the Special Interest background - $65 FEE.

(Camper, Combination, Handicapped, Camp Trailer, Commercial, and Passenger)

 

*Replace my current marker plate with an "off-the-shelf" plate from the Special Interest Series - $65 FEE.

(Camper, Combination, Handicapped, Camp Trailer, Commercial, and Passenger)

 

* I do not have a vanity plate but wish to obtain one on the Special Interest background Series - $130 FEE.

The asterisk (*) refers to a statement at the bottom of the card - "*If your current Registration is due to expire within the next 45 days, hold your application until you have renewed your registration." [If your current registration is do to expire before February 2002 - RENEW BEFORE you apply for this design.]

You mark only one of these blocks.

Note: To apply for a NEW Vanity Plate you have to fill out the back of the application card and list up to six choices in the order of your preference. The entire back of the card is for the Vanity Plate, and includes detailed instructions.

The information for the other blocks on the front of the application card that you must fill in can be found on your current registration. Please write legibly. Those blocks are as follows:

MAKE OUT A CHECK TO "DMV" for either $65 (or $130 if you are applying for a New Vanity Plate Number or Word).

DMV will contact you when your new SUBVET License Plate is ready. They estimate they will be ready to start making them in December.
