The Great Kansas Bowhunt
October 2, 2000
George and I were in the woods at " Ricks " before daylight and into our stands.

Around 8:30 am the deer moved in, first to me. A large doe held back and the two smaller baldies moved off in Bowdad's direction. The large doe never did come in.

This is Bowdad's story as follows;

Lonny had me about twenty feet up in a pine tree in a home made stand. At first light a couple of curious raccoons paid me a visit as I settled in for the morning.

Light came at around 7:00 am with the noise of the raccoons nearby keeping me alert.

At 8:30 I heard footsteps to my right and behind me. Lonny had predicted they would come from my left. Both the deer that Lonny saw came into my shooting lane at 20 & 25 yds. The closer deer offered a perfect quartering away shot. I put the pin high on the lungs and sent it on it's way for a clean miss! The deer never spooked and turned around and came in closer in response to a doe bleat from my call. Another quartering away shot scored a perfect double lung passthrough! The deer went 15 yds, ran around in a couple of circles and piled up! The second deer remained and was joined by another small baldie. They both stayed withing 25 yds. until Travis walked over about 15 mins. later.

A fine young button buck for the Bowdad!
