the movie The Matrix, humans are cloned and enslaved
to provide biochemical energy to power a race of machines.
It's great science fiction but as is the case in this
fast-paced world of technology, today's science fiction
often becomes tomorrow's reality and with it, ethical
concerns. But the latest discovery in the science of stem
cell research may have ended the ethical concerns
surrounding the destruction of human embryos.

Power

sits in space, spinning on its own axis, a blazing, angry
fusion reaction hurling immense quantities of radiant energy
in all directions. At 93 million miles away, we are the
beneficiaries. Life on this planet as we know it would be
impossible without our sun. Earth would be a frozen
wasteland with a temperature only slightly above absolute
zero. Its oceans and atmosphere would be solid.

Reaping a Rich Harvest in the White
Fields of the Andes

Since
1999, I have participated in an annual event with a group of
Peruvian missionaries that has come to be known as an "Andes
Trek." We walk for days to bring hope and joy to remote
Quechua villages, some only accessible by narrow footpaths
carved into the sides of the steep mountains.
