| This year will be a special one as it is the 60th anniversary of D-DAY,although many vehicles are going to France (1-11th June),there are still plenty of others+special commemorative events in Cornwall & elsewhere. In Falmouth the U.S.29th Infantry Division will be given Honorary Freedom of the borough,in a special event from 29-31st May.This will include a special service at Trebah Gardens on the 29th,full day of events(incl Parachute Regiment band,living history displays,MVT displays & a concert by the Glen Miller Orchestra UK+other attractions)at Pendennis on the 30th,and this will be followed by a very special parade in honor of the 29th,and it`s visiting veterans,with marching bands,displays and historic vehicles on the 31st. |
| The U.S.29th Infantry Division "The division was charged with the defence and protection of Cornwall in 1944 and embarked from ports,fishing villiages and beaches in the county for the D-Day assault on Omaha Beach.The furthest west beach embarkation was from the beach at Trebah." The Honorary Freedom of the Borough "is the highest honor that any town can bestow on a military unit and is rarely given" THANKYOU TO THE U.S.29TH INFANTRY DIVISION & all those unsung hero`s that took part in WW11 in all it`s many terrrible theatre`s of war.
