GRAYLAND Academy is a free-form roleplaying game loosely based on the Marvel Universe. It is set on modern-day Seattle, Washington, and while most of the interaction is in the school campus itself, oftentimes players would have their characters venture into the "Emerald City" as well. While well-known and established characters such as the X-Men, Alpha Flight, and so on exist in the same present timeline, the school's universe itself is more akin to a parallel/separate universe and not directly involved with the trials and tribulations of established personalities. The X-men, various X-villains, and others here are no more than people one sees during television news broadcasts. This is one of the reasons why playing established characters in this setting is discouraged. Please see the Rules section for more guidelines on character creation and basic netiquette.
Currently, the player base of the setting is small, but growing in the recent weeks as the word spreads. The operators and the maintainers of the website are still fleshing out most of the setting, and this website will continue developing as more details are ironed out, hence incomplete material on some of the sections of the website. Comments and suggestions are always welcome, and feel free to contact the webmasters and channel operators for any questions you might have in regards to getting started, if the information for such can't be found anywhere here.
The game is played in the #Grayland*Academy channel hosted in the Starchat network. Those who want to participate must have some sort of IRC client in order to access the channel. In the Sorcery website, there is also a Java client in its Browser Applet section that can be used to get into the channel. Just fill in an appropriate nickname and put "Grayland*Academy" on the field that designates the channel name (#Sorcery is used as a default which takes a person to those running the actual network). To enhance the Grayland Academy roleplaying experience, this website also features a Forum section in where old and new players can interact through a public message board and a mailing list. Original artwork, short stories, and other related, creative expressions are encouraged to be submitted to the webmasters in the Forum.
Hope to see you there!

Sev's guide on
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR CHARACTER
by your friendly neighbourhood Cibo
Because of a third round of changes in management, and because of holidays, school, work and busy life in general, the website has now acquired a new FORUM feature! The Grayland Ops Mailing List is now defunct and no longer in use! We have switched over to the forum system for everyone's convenience, which means we have, yet again for a third season, new character submission rules in place.
- First off, here is the Character Submission Guideline. Please follow this format when submitting!
- Put your character's name and the character's alias in the SUBJECT of your post.
IE: Bobby McBlabbitybla [Iceman]
This way, we don't get a ton of posts labelled "NEW CHARACTER" or "GA CHAR" or "MY SUBMISSION" or "XXX HORSEBANGING COCKJUMPERS".
- Then, post it in the Character Submission forum! We insist that players keep their own copies of their bios in .txt format, just in case the forum explodes.
- Then sit back and wait for a moderator/op to review your application.
- But! You can also join the IRC OOC channel to talk to an operator about your character application, to get it appoved faster. Please be polite, we are fragile caretakers.
- Then please be patient while we review your bio. Within three to four days, we will inform you personally or by email to let you know if your char has been accepted or not, or if we feel that your character needs some tweaking in order to suit the setting.
- Because of crap like life and school, sometimes character submission reviews will take a while. Some of us have school and work like normal people, unlike you internet-whores.
- Also, there must be at -least- THREE approvals to be able to get your char approved. We work on a three-vote majority to approve character bios, so trying to get your bio approved right away with only one op will not work.
Very simple! Please ask the ops if you are confused, but more than likely we'll point you right back here for reference.
On an important note, #Grayland*Academy and #GA*OOC have since moved to SORCERY.NET because Starchat was being a dick or something. So please join us on irc.sorcery.net! Thank you!
If you are an impatient little titbag and don't feel like waiting a week, here are some more rules for you to swallow:
--- NEW RULES, OMG ---
- You may play your character right away, but you CANNOT USE POWERS until they have been approved.
- Please ask before you attempt playing out a severe, setting-altering plot or event. Thanks!
- Please don't be uppity or snarky to the ops or else you will get kicked or even banned! Oh noes!!
- Please send Cibo gifts and bribes.
That is all!
