They say that God is love. But how do we love like God? In Deuteronomy chapter 5 verse 10 it reads "...showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."(NIV) In John chapter 14 verse 15 the Messiah says "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments."(HCSB) The Messiah continues in verses 21 thru 23 "'The one who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. And the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father. I also will love him and will reveal Myself to him.' Judas (not Iscariot) said to him 'Lord, how is it You're going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?' Jesus answered 'If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.'"(HCSB) The Messiah then reinforced what He said later in chapter 15 verse 10 "If you keep My commandments you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Fathers commandments and remain in His love."(HCSB) If that wasn't very clear the apostle John sums it up pretty well in First John chapter 5 verse 3a "For this is what love for God is: to keep his commands."(HCSB) Therefore, if you love the Lord of creation then you will want to keep His commands. What is love? The apostle Paul answers that question in First Corinthians chapter 13 verses 4 thru 8a "Love is patient; love is kind. Love does not envy; is not boastful; is not conceited; does not act improperly; is not selfish; is not provoked; does not keep a record of wrongs; finds no joy in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends."(HCSB) Alot of us fall short of that one every day. The Messiah also sums these things up with His greatest command in Matthew chapter 22 verses 37 thru 38 "He said to him, ''You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind' This is the greatest and most important commandment'"(HCSB) Truly love the Lord and you will truly remain in His love. |
