It was Barry Gibb who sang the unforgettable lines "don't forget to remember me, and the love that used to be".  Barry has written more US and UK number ones than any artist except Paul McCartney, or something like that.  Paul McCartney's wife was called Linda and she developed a tasty range of vegetarian food (although not much of it is vegan).  Linda has sadly passed away.  Like this News Page she has gone to a better place.  Can't be worse than that brown nosing arseholes bed.

It is with great pleasure that we have watched the growth and development of a small but ever expanding movement of McDonald’s workers who are fed up with their treatment at the hands of the company and, more importantly, are prepared to do something about it.  Because we feel it is essential that we all work together and co-operate the secretariat of McDonalds Workers Resistance have drafted an
open letter  proposing that we all jointly set up one e-mail discussion group that can link our different initiatives, not as an alternative to what we already all do, but as an addition.  Firstly, we address this proposal to the wider movement of McDonald’s workers, especially in English speaking places, to all the different websites, groups and individuals, but this letter is also to anyone with a supportive interest in the attempts McDonald’s workers are making to change their working lives.  Before anyone tries to set such a forum up, we think everyone concerned should get a say, so please send your input to forum@mwr.org.uk and we’ll publish it here

McWorkers in Romagna (northern adriatic coast) have made franchisees put the rainbow flag next to the golden arches. Consumers like it and the company has kept mum so far.  The union (Filcams, affiliated to CGIL and fairly moderate) is trying to expand the initiative to Milan and even across all outlets in Europe. In the meanwhile, the McD contract has yet to be signed, as the company tries to buy time to avoid collective bargaining. The Italian labor contract for the retail industry has expired and is to be renewed this yea

THE DAY WAR IS OFFICIALLY DECLARED.
..

In line with calls from the anti-war movement, many of us involved with McDonalds Workers Resistance will be avoiding work on the day the bombing starts, through phoning in sick or walking out for the whole day or for a few minutes.  We strongly encourage other workers to do the same and to this effect release the following statement:

"McDonalds Workers Resistance wish to make public our absolute and unfaltering opposition to the military adventures of the US and UK governments and to make known that we recognise the strategic and economic reasons for the impending bombardment.  We unreservedly oppose the Iraqi regime but given the motivations of the US and British governments, and given their respective histories of supporting and arming violent tyrants (including Hussein), we reject their legitimacy and do not look to them to solve the problems faced by the working class in Iraq or anywhere else.  In contrast, we look to collective action and international solidarity amongst ordinary people to deliver regime change in the US, Europe and Iraq.  With this in mind, and to demonstrate our continued opposition to the massive sufferings heaped upon the Iraqi people by the rulers of the world, we will be avoiding work on the day war officially begins and we encourage all McDonalds Workers to do the same.  Our thoughts and hopes are with the Iraqi people, our solidarity with all the workers of the world who are trying to obstruct the war effort- with the Communication Workers Union and the Fire-fighters in the UK, with the dock workers and train drivers in Italy, with the Longshoremen in the US, and many others.

MWR has opposed economic and military imperialism consistently; this linked statement was written two days after the terrorist attacks in New York

It appears McDonalds paranoia has reached new levels after we were contacted by someone who claims they have been suspended from their McJob for alledgedly being a member of MWR.  Nothing amazing about that you might think except that he swears he had never even heard of MWR before his suspension!  The circumstances are still not entirely clear but we will be doing all we can to ensure that such an injustice does not occu

Glasgow MWR has finally officially disolved itself.  We are issuing one final statement below to explain this move.  GMWR is dead, long live MWR!  A small group of people who have loong been involved with GMWR and are still slaving for Big Mac are taking it upon ourselves to continue our administrative role in the guise of the MWR secretariat.  This secretariat will be purely administrative, updating the website, responding to e-mails, facilitating discussions within MWR, we will not be actively calling initiatives in the way that Glasgow MWR used to.  For those whose involvement with McDonalds and MWR is now over, we wish them all the very best.  A full description of the role of the secretariat will be made available soon
.

FInal statement of Glasgow MWR:

"It’s been a long hard struggle, but as with all good things - well, all things – it has to come to an end. There are several reasons for dissolving Glasgow McDonalds Workers Resistance, the most important being that over the years we have grown to completely despise each other, but this isn't the only reason. Many of the original group have left the job, and one of the more productive of the group has gone to live in Sierra Leone, or somewhere else better than Glasgow.
It also seemed that GMWR, as the original MWR group, had become something of a leader amongst the others (that is to say that the majority of the ideas for actions and statements originated in Glasgow), and, in case you hadn't noticed, leadership isn't really our thing.  We decided that we would rather dissolve ourselves than continue to exist in a hierarchical system of our own creation. The time has come then, to set free what we have come to think of as our children. Little bastards, glad to be rid of them.
So, we'll continue to perform an administrative role as MWR’s secretariat.  We will read emails, distribute news, maintain the website, facilitate discussions within MWR, comment and make suggestions, but from now on initiatives and actions will have to be proposed, determined and organised by the other groups and individuals involved with MWR, of which there are thankfully plenty.
Finally, to put all of your minds at rest, we haven’t given up and we’ll still never compromise. Here are some last words- fuck the boss. We think that's really important. Also, don’t forget, it wasn't her obvious sex appeal but the relish with which she devoured the hamburger that made his pulse begin to hammer with excitement.  Ray Kroc was a cock… thank fuck he's dead.
It’s been emotional.
Lots of love,
GM

Just nine months after asking him to stay on the job until 2005, struggling fast food giant McDonald's Corp. is saying fuck off to top honcho and MWR's long time enemy, Jack Greenberg.

According to yahoo news, "McDonald's, mired in a deep two-year slump, recently announced it is slowing its expansion pace as it grapples with a crowded restaurant market, sluggish economy a
nd complaints about poor service". Nice one!  We could have a good laugh about all this except that Jack has got so fucking rich out of his nightmare spell in charge that he will never need to work again. Where as the poor bastards made redundant as McDonalds pulls out quicker than a man shagging without contraception will be flung on the dole, if their country even has the dole.  We need to oppose these redundancies.  McDonalds is still making billions of dollars in profit and as they seek to invest their fortune for the maximum possible gain, the workers pay the price as usual.

The company's stock has lost about two-thirds of its value since Greenberg was named CEO in 1998, and shares recently fell to a seven-year low.  Good work Jack, you'll get into MWR eventuall

T
he McGo-SLow as Fuck is going ahead although it is not as widespread as might have been hoped.  At present we know of 8 stores, 6 in the UK and 2 in the US which are observing the Go-Slow but there are probably others that just haven't confirmed their participation.  There have been a number of problems in the preparation of this action, not least to do with delayed Christmas post.  Nevertheless, some of us have been inspired by linking up with the Argentinean experience and we are hopefully doing our bit to show the people of Argentina that there are ordinary workers like them all over the world who support their struggle and also believe 'they all must go'.  And we are also demonstrating that we are not forgetting about the anti-McDonalds political prisoners in Mexico.  For McDonalds workers, his day was never going to be on the scale of October 16th but in Argentina it has predictably been massive. The immediate consequences of our participation is that in several McDonalds the Go-Slow, timed for one of the very busiest days of the year, is causing long delays for would be customers and leaving workers less stressed than usual.  Once again we are taking direct action, albeit on a small scale, to hit McDonalds where it hurts them- their profit margin!

Fuck, December 21st 2002.  A chance to be slack bastards for a reason, the international McGo-Slow As Fuck is a day for McDonalds workers to work slowly as part of a call for disobedience in solidarity with the Argentinean popular rebellion and with the anti-McDonalds political prisoners in Mexico.  Click here for more information.
