CAERNARFON TOWN FIRST VISITORS TO GLANTRAETH(09/07/09) The Cymru Alliance have released provisional fixtures for August which sees Glantraeth make the long trip down to mid-Wales to face new boys Berriew on the opening day, Saturday 15th August. The following Wednesday there is a juicy opener at Cae Trefdraeth when Caernarfon Town are the visitors, a game that should attract a large crowd. The remaining fixtures for the month are: Saturday 22nd August Buckley Town (home), Wednesday 26th August Llandudno (away) and Saturday 29th August Llangollen Town (away). RHYS BACKS HIS LOCAL CLUB (08/07/09) We would like to thank Rhys Williams who has generously agreed to sponsor us this season as a personal gesture of support for his local Bodorgan football club. Rhys is a very successful property developer and now owns Henblas Country Park and many will know his father Dr Richard and his sister Dr Angharad from visits made to the surgery at Bethel. 
NEW APPOINTMENTS MADE AT CLUB AGM(06/07/09) At this evening's Annual General Meeting Stan Strickland (pictured left) was appointed the new club secretary in place of John P Owen who has retired after 25 years in the position. Stan is a former secretary and director of Lancashire club Burscough, the 2003 English FA Trophy winners. Reg  Bryant (pictured below), the former chairman of Bodedern, accepted the position of fixtures secretary in succession to Gwilym Jones whose work commitments limited his involvement last season. Many thanks to John and Gwilym for all the work they have done for the club over many years though John has agreed to accept the position of treasurer for next season. Admission charges next season will remain at £3 with concessions at £2 for seniors and £1 for under 16s. The club have decided to once again enter the North Wales Coast FA Challenge Cup.
TRAINING NEXT TUESDAY (03/07/09) The next training session at Glantraeth takes place next Tuesday evening (7th July), 7.00 pm start. All welcome. CLUB AGM ON MONDAY (02/07/09) The club will be holding its 26th Annual General Meeting at the ground next Monday (6th July), 7.00 pm start. Anyone who wants to help the club in some capacity is welcome to attend. JUNCTION DATE CHANGE (30/06/09) The pre-season fixture at Llandudno Junction originally scheduled for Wednesday 29th July has now been moved back a day to Thursday 30th July, still 6.45 pm kick-off. HOLDERS BEATEN BY ISLAND TEAM ! 
(30/06/09) Ynys Mon recovered brilliantly from yesterday's 2-0 defeat by Guernsey to beat the holders Gibraltar today by three goals to one. One down with time running out the boys stormed back with three goals in the final 12 minutes from Mel McGuiness and Marc Evans (2) to give them a shock victory. Unfortunately an 8-0 win by Guernsey over Froya takes them through to the semi-finals as group winners on goal difference. MIKE IS NEW MAN IN CHARGE(28/06/09) Glantraeth have appointed ex-Gaerwen boss Mike Bennett as manager. A former Glantraeth and Bodedern player Mike won the Gwynedd League Cup in 2007-08 season with the progressive Lon Groes club and welcomes this opportunity to show what he can do at a higher level. Mike will be assisted by Bob Brodie who was manager here at Cae Trefdraeth prior to Paul Whelan taking charge. All last season’s squad are invited to pre-season training that commences at Glantraeth this coming Wednesday 1st July (7.00 pm start) as well as any new players wishing to join the club. (28/06/09) In today's opening game in their Island Games group Ynys Mon have completed a 3-0 win over Froya in Jomala. Goalscorers were Mel McGuinness (2) and Rhys Roberts with Richard Owen getting the Man of the Match award.
PERFECT SEND-OFF FOR YNYS MON  (25/06/09) A 5-3 win for Ynys Mon over a strong Bangor City team last night gave the squad the perfect send-off before they jet off to Aland tomorrow for the Island Games. Played in perfect weather and well staged by hosts Llanfairpwll Ynys Mon went three goals down before recovering to win through goals from Marc Evans (2), James Burgess (pictured right), Rhys Roberts and Mel McGuinness. FORMER WEMBLEY WINNERS MAKE PRE-SEASON VISIT(22/06/09) In 1971 Skelmersdale United won the FA Amateur Cup at Wembley Stadium, beating Dagenham in front of 45,000 spectators. It was the greatest day in the Lancashire club’s 127 year history. Since then they have gone on to establish themselves as one of the top semi-professional clubs in the North West of England, now playing in the UniBond League, and the club will be breaking new ground on Saturday 8th August when they make their first visit to Anglesey to provide the opposition for the last of our pre-season fixtures. Prior to that we have arranged pre-season games at Amlwch Town (Saturday 25th July), at Llandudno Junction (Wednesday 29th July) and at home to Welsh National League side Venture Community on Saturday 1st August. ENTO DECIDE TO APPEAL AFTER ALL(22/06/09) Ento Aberaman have sensationally reversed their previous decision not to mount a further appeal against being rejected for promotion to the Welsh Premier League and have now submitted an appeal to the FAW throwing the whole promotion/relegation scenario back into chaos. GLAN STAY IN CYMRU ALLIANCE (20/06/09) It was confirmed at today's Cymru Alliance AGM at Guilsfield that Glantraeth would play in the Cymru Alliance next season with only Llandyrnog United relegated. The season will start on the weekend of 14th/15th August. Much of the discussion centered on the re-organisation of Welsh football and how it would affect the Cymru Alliance. Chairman Steve Williams spelled out that it was impossible to predict at this stage how the season would develop  but a worst case scenario could see as many as ELEVEN clubs relegated next season. The knock on effect throughout the Welsh pyramid hardly bears thinking about. Congratulations were offered to Bala Town on their promotion to the Welsh Premier League and a huge round of applause was given to our hardworking management committee, in particular to secretary, registration's secretary, fixture secretary, treasurer and, last but not least, website manager Chas Rowland (pictured right). LINE-UP FOR NEXT SEASON (17/06/09) The Cymru Alliance website appears to be now supporting the view  that the league next season will consist of the following 18 clubs: Berriew, Bethesda Athletic, Buckley Town, Caernarfon Town, Denbigh Town, Flint Town United, Glantraeth, Gresford Athletic, Guilsfield, Holyhead Hotspur, Lex XI, Llandudno, Llanfairpwll, Llangefni Town, Llangollen Town, Mold Alex, Penrhyncoch & Ruthin Town. This of course has to be officially confimed at this weekend's Annual General Meeting at Guilsfield.  JEFF DECIDES TO TAKE A BREAK(17/06/09) Jeff Scott has decided to take a break from football and has resigned his position on the Glantraeth committee. Jeff has given sterling service to Anglesey football over many years, firstly as secretary and treasurer at Holyhead Mountain Rangers for 14 years then over 5 years as secretary of Holyhead Hotspur before joining Glantraeth in 2003 where he has been programme editor and press officer. Jeff has enjoyed his time at Glantraeth, his favourite memory not surprisingly being the league and cup double in 2006. He is pictured above with those two trophies. We thank Jeff for all he has done for the club and hope to see him back at Glantraeth in the near future. NO FURTHER APPEAL BY ENTO ABERAMAN(16/06/09) Good news for Glantraeth and others faced with the threat of relegation is that Ento Aberaman decided last night that they would not mount a further appeal against the decision to refuse them promotion to the Welsh Premier League. The way is now clear for the line-up for next season's Cymru Alliance to be finalised at next Saturday's AGM. SUPER 10 BECOMES SUPER 12 (13/06/09) From www.welsh-premier.com - A last minute compromise deal will see the Welsh Premier reduced to 12 clubs in 2010 following today's annual general meeting in Llandrindod Wells. The original rule change, which would have seen the league cut to 10 clubs, was withdrawn after a deal was brokered between the FAW, the Welsh Premier  board and the 18 member clubs, who voted unanimously on a special resolution to accept the new structure.
Without the agreement, it was feared that the 'Super 10' proposal would have failed to gain sufficient votes, leaving the governing body to use its majority shareholding to impose its preferred option on the league and possibly withdraw its financial support.
Clubs will play 44 league games in season 2010/11, with the Loosemores League Cup reduced to a straight knockout format.
Qualification for the new-look league will be from the highest-placed clubs that have been awarded the FAW's domestic licence. Provided as many as 12 clubs can meet the criteria, a maximum of eight clubs will now be relegated into the feeder leagues at the end of the next season.
But the number could be as low as six, with no promotion applicant from the Welsh League or the Cymru Alliance expected to gain the licence over the next 12 months.
The Welsh Premier board proposes to reduce the number of clubs progressivlely to 11 in 2011 and 10 the following year.
Relegation and promotion would be on a one-up and two-down basis to achieve the FAW's preferred league size within three years.Cymru Alliance champions Bala Town were formally accepted into the league for 2009/10. 
ABERAMAN LOSE APPEAL...GLAN TO STAY IN CYMRU ALLIANCE ?(11/06/09) It's still too early to be certain but it is looking increasingly more likely that Glantraeth will remain in the Cymru Alliance next season. At an FAW appeals hearing today in Cardiff Welsh League Champions Ento Aberaman failed in their efforts to overturn the decision to refuse them promotion to the Welsh Premier League meaning that only Caernarfon Town will be relegated and Caersws will again be reprieved. The decision could be subject to further appeal. THURSDAY COULD SEAL OUR FATE (07/06/09) The appeal by Welsh League Division One winners Ento Aberaman against their rejection for promotion to the Welsh Premier League could well hold the key as to whether we retain our place in the Cymru Allaince next season. The appeal will be heard next Thursday, 11th June, at the FAW headquarters in Cardiff. Simple arithmetic tells you that if they win their appeal and are promoted then the liklehood is that Caersws will be relegated to the Cymru Alliance along with Caernarfon Town and two clubs will be relegated from the Cymru Alliance i.e. Glantraeth and Llandyrnog United. We await the decision with baited breath.LEE DIXON GETS CEFNI JOB  (04/06/09) Former Glantraeth favourite Lee Dixon has today been appointed the new manager of Llangefni Town with Ian Hughes as his assistant. It is a big blow for Glan as both of them were among our top choices to take over as manager here at Trefdraeth. It must be the youngest management pairing in the Cymru Alliance with Lee aged 29 and Ian only 25. We wish them well and thank both of them for having the courtesy to phone us about their appointments. CHARITY GAME FOR TY GOBAITH CHILDREN'S HOSPICE(02/06/09) We are delighted to support a charity game next Saturday (2.00 pm kick-off) at Bethesda Athletic's Parc Meurig ground in aid of Ty Gobaith Children's Hospice in Conwy which provides loving respite care for sick children throughout North Wales. The game is between a Daily Post/Trinity Mirror Newspapers NW XI and a North Wales select side that includes Glantraeth's Anthony Hughes. There cannot be a more deserving cause as it is a crying shame that children's hospices such as Ty Gobaith have to rely so heavily on charitable donations so please show your support by attending the game. (28/05/09) Glantraeth's chances of remaining in the Cymru Alliance may well depend on the outcome of an appeal by Welsh League Champions Ento Aberaman. The Cynon Valley club have now completed erecting floodlights and are due to have their appeal against being refused promotion to the Welsh Premier League heard by the FAW on June 8th. If they are successful it will mean two clubs being relegated from the WPL, Caernarfon Town and Caersws, and likely two clubs going down from the Cymru Alliance.
YNYS MON TO MEET HOLDERS
(26/05/09) The draw has been made for the 2009 Island Games football competition to be held in Aland next month and it couldn't be tougher for Ynys Mon as their group includes holders Gibraltar. Also in their group are Froya and Guernsey. Matches start on Sunday 28th June when the opening fixture will be hosts Aland v Greenland. Glantraeth players Gareth Owen and James Burgess are in an Ynys Mon squad that has been seriously weakened by late withdrawals.
THREE NUMBERS DRAWN....1, 2 & 3 !!! (23/05/09) The odds against drawing out in sequence the numbers 1, 2 & 3 must be pretty high but that's what happened in tonight's Three Number Lotto draw in the Royal Oak. There was one winner of the £500 Jackpot, Major of Llanerchymedd who picks those numbers every time. The next draw takes place in the Joiners Arms on Saturday 13th June when there will again be a Jackpot of £500. HOW DOES ALL THIS AFFECT US ? (19/05/09) The sad demise of Mynydd Isa has been seen by some as a possible reprieve for Glantraeth but it is far too early to say. A member of the Cymru Alliance League Management Committee confirmed to me over the weekend that all  three clubs from the feeder leagues have had their grounds passed for promotion although there is still some doubt about who might be relegated from the Welsh Premier League due to Ento Aberaman’s appeal against being refused promotion from the Welsh League. Last week’s controversial decision by the FAW to ignore previous consultations and make a unilateral decision to reduce the WPL to ten clubs and condemn the remaining clubs to relegation will have an enormous knock-on effect throughout Wales and while fully supporting the need to streamline Welsh football it seems inconceivable that they could make such a radical decision without even consulting the feeder leagues which is what appears to have happened. It is those leagues who will have to pick up the pieces as the domino effect forces mass relegations throughout the system at the end of next season. How the Cymru Alliance will react to this we still don’t know but under the circumstances we cannot now guarantee that they will return to 18 clubs next season which would have given us our best hope of survival. CLUB STATEMENT BY MYNYDD ISA (18/05/09) It is with deep regret the committee of Mynydd Isa F.C must announce that at completion of season 2008/09 the Football Club will be  dissolved. 2008/09 was the most successful season in the club's history with a 4th place finish in the Cymru Alliance and a NEWFA challenge cup final appearance at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground. The decision to dissolve the club has been reached due to a number of factors but the two most important factors being:(a) The pressure of running with a committee of just 4 people, this would be 3 in 2009/10. It is disappointing that in a village the size of Mynydd Isa, not one person was prepared to assist in the running of a successful Cymru Alliance Football Club. (b) The breakdown in the relationship between Mynydd Isa Football Club and Argoed Sports Association which culminated in the withdrawal of any support from ASA for Mynydd Isa Football Club. The club found itself in an untenable situation and despite exploring several possible options ultimately found no solutions to the problems. Mynydd Isa F.C would like to thank everyone who have sponsored, played, managed and supported the club over the 33 years of its existence. MYNYDD ISA PULL OUT OF LEAGUE (16/05/09) Mynydd Isa have today resigned from the Cymru Alliance and folded. There have been rumours for several weeks about the Flintshire club's future but it still comes as a shock after they have just had such a successful season and
although Bala manager Colin Caton will be in line for the manager of the year award there would also be a strong case for Gareth Thomas who took Isa to fourth place with minimal resources. How it will affect Glantraeth's position remains to be seen. Under normal circumstances it would give us a glimmer of hope but the league might also see this as an opportunity to reduce the number of member clubs ready for the cull that seems certain to occur at the end of next season. Once again we must wait and see but it is very sad to see a friendly club like Isa fold and we can only hope they re-emerge in some form in the future.
BALA COMPLETE DOUBLE 
(16/05/09) Goals in extra-time from Gary Penlington and Huw Price saw Bala Town complete a Cymru Alliance League and Cup double this afternoon at
Llandudno as they beat Holyhead Hotspur 2-0. They now become only the fourth club to achieve such a feat, following in the footsteps of Oswestry, Porthmadog and, of course, Glantraeth. The league programme was completed as the unsung heroes of Anglesey football, Llanfairpwll, jumped to eleventh place with a 1-0 home win over Penrhyncoch, Craig Green scoring a late winner.GROUND DEVELOPMENT LATEST 
 (15/05/09) No matter what league we end up playing in next season we are determined to push ahead with ground developments using grant money from the O2 Community Fund and Welsh Ground Improvements. Although delayed somewhat work is now in progress on laying the hardstanding from the ground entrance and linking up the main spectator areas and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
BIG CHANGES IN WELSH FOOTBALL (13/05/09) In a decision that will have massive implications for Welsh football the FAW Council Meeting yesterday decided that from 2010-11 season
the Welsh Premier League will be reduced to ten clubs with no second division. That means that clubs that do not meet the criteria to be part of the restructured WPL will be effectively relegated to the Cymru Alliance or Welsh League Division One. Decisions taken also mean that the top two tiers of Welsh football will be reduced from 54 clubs to 42 clubs which will have implications throughout the Pyramid with clubs currently in the CAL being forced out. Personally, I always thought a national second division was a disaster in the making although reducing the WPL from 18 clubs to ten in one stroke with 12 months notice seems a bit drastic to put it mildly. On the positive side it will surely increase the prestige of the Cymru Alliance as long as the WPL doesn't become a closed shop! One thing is for sure, we ain't heard the last of this. (SS)

(12/05/09) From the Cymru Alliance website: "The rules changes affecting the directly affiliated leagues have apparently been accepted for season 2009/2010. This will mean that Cymru Alliance clubs can register players from June 1st 2009 until the last Thursday in March 2010. New forms for next season have not yet been supplied to the league. Old forms will not be accepted.
Proposals put forward by Llanwern FC regarding the one player/one club rule were defeated."
FURTHER HONOUR FOR GARETH (10/05/09) Following on from his Player of the Year award on Friday Glan skipper Gareth Owen has been selected in the Cymru Alliance Team of the Season chosen from man of the match votes cast by opposing clubs during the course of the season. GARETH IS PLAYER OF THE YEAR(09/05/09) A great presentation night at the Joiners saw club captain Gareth Owen crowned Player of the Year for 2008-09 season. The Leading Scorer award went to Kevin Roberts and a presentation was made to Emyr Rowlands in recognition of his period as manager. Other highlights of 
the night were Chris Evans arriving dressed as a nun (pictured) and Al Blaenau's additional presentations that had everyone doubled up, a couple that I can still remember this morning were Goal of the Season to Adam Jones, Gareth Owen for three own goals and something (or someone) that Bryn Jones got up to before the Guilsfield game. Chris Evans got my vote as the best singer on the karaoke with Robbie Williams' 'Angels' and I have a vague recollection of getting up to sing 'Delilah' with the chairman. Helen was presented with flowers for all the work she does for the club and Phil put on a fabulous buffet. I might have been to better presentation nights but I can't recall one offhand and it was a fitting way to celebrate 25 years of Glantraeth Football Club. Photos now online.(SS)

HOLYHEAD FINISH RUNNERS-UP(03/05/09) A 3-1 win at Llanfairpwll this evening secured Holyhead Hotspur the runners-up spot behind Bala Town, their goals coming from Lee Webber, Mark Evans and Kenleigh Owen with Billy Evans getting a last minute consolation for Llanfair. In the evening's only other game Ruthin Town won 4-2 at home to Lex XI to finish in a creditable sixth position. 
EX-GLAN MAN LES THE HERO(05/05/09) Former Glantraeth striker Les Davies was the toast of Bangor yesterday as he scored one and made another as Bangor City beat Aberystwyth 2-0 to retain the Welsh Cup and gain a place in next season’s Europa League. Les left Glantraeth in 2003 to join Bangor before leaving to join Porthmadog only to re-join the Farrar Road club in 2007. The 24 year old striker has represented Wales at semi-professional level and is an under 21 international. The decision to stage the final at Llanelli's Parc Y Scarlets on a Bank Holiday Monday which attracted so much controversy seems to have backfired as a crowd of only 1,044 attended, down on last season’s attendance of 1,500 plus at Newtown. PRESENTATION NIGHT FRIDAY (03/05/09) The club's presentation night for 2008-09 season is at the Joiners Arms, Malltraeth next Friday (8th May) starting around 8.00 pm. All players, officials and supporters are welcome. There will be a buffet and karaoke/disco and presentations will include Leading Scorer and Player of the Year. It's sure to be a good night with the club also celebrating it's 25th anniversary since being founded in 1984. See you there. BALA ARE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 
(02/05/09) Holyhead Hotspur's valiant efforts to catch Bala Town finally floundered this afternoon as they were beaten at home by Flint Town United which means Bala cannot now be caught and are the new Cymru Alliance League Champions and in line for promotion to the Welsh Premier League. Today's results: Denbigh 0 Mynydd Isa 2, Guilsfield 3 Llandyrnog 0, Holyhead 0 Flint 5, Lex 3 Gresford 2 & Penrhyncoch 2 Buckley 1.
GOOD LUCK JAMES & GARETH(30/04/09) Glantraeth players James Burgess and Gareth Owen will be representing Ynys Mon in the 2009 Island Games that begin in June on the Finnish island of Aland. It will be the third occasion in which Gareth has participated in the Games having already travelled to Rhodes and the Shetland Isles. The islands taking part this year in the football tournament are Aland, Falkland Islands, Froya, Gibraltar, Gotland, Greenland, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Menorca, Prince Edward Island, Rhodes, Saaremaa, Shetland, Western Isles and Ynys Mon. The main stadium is in Mariehamn with a covered stand that has seating  accommodation for 1650 spectators and is home to IFK Mariehamn a Finnish Premiership club. The facilities in Aland are being described as the best yet for an Island Games and you do once again wonder how an island with a population that is about one third of Anglesey's is now holding the Games for the second time while we seem as far away as ever from having the facilities to play host. Anyway, that's for another time, so good luck to James and Gareth for what is sure to be another great experience and try and keep us informed of your progress.BALA CHAMPS IN ALL BUT NAME (29/04/09) After a nervous end to the season Bala Town finally clinched the Cymru Alliance League title this evening with a 2-0 victory at Lex XI. Holyhead would have to win their remaining three games and make up a goal difference of more than twenty goals to overtake the Maes Tegid club and despite scoring 21 goals in their last four league games it is surely an impossible task for the Anglesey side despite a fantastic effort over the past few weeks. While there still remains that mathematical possibility however the Championship Trophy will stay in the hands of league secretary Chas Rowland.
A LONG AND WINDING ROAD  (28/04/09) As the team picture (click to enlarge) taken before Saturday's game with Penrhyncoch shows only four players remain from the opening day of the season at Denbigh Town: Gareth Owen, Chris Evans, Emyr Rowlands and Kevin Roberts. It's been a long and winding road since then but we would like to thank those players that stuck with us during what has been a very difficult season, on and off the pitch. Thanks to Emyr for taking on the manager's role in January and the other players that helped him. We managed three wins and two draws during his time in charge which compared favourably to our record prior to that. We don't yet know what the future holds but have to start planning for Welsh Alliance football and hope we get a reprieve. The club hasn't stood still during all the upheaval. We’ve had some great years but this season we have had to take stock on several fronts and plan for the future in a way that I feel certain will make us a better football club.
