| *Objective is to increase calcium and magnesium while decreasing potassium and sodium for your diet. |
| Daily recommended supplements ~ Calcium: 800mg. ~ Magnesium: 300mg. ~ Vitamin D. Daily fluid intake ~ Must be 2-2.5 litres (8-10 glasses). ~ This is very important for calcium absorption. Milk: ~ Drink 750ml per day (full cream, skim etc). ~ Include two milk products, eg yoghurt and milk pudding (custard) each day. Eggs: ~ Allowed, but do not introduce forbidden foods (eg cheese omelette). Cheese: ~ Parmesan cheese, one dessertspoon maximum twice a week. ~ Small serves of cottage cheese. Tea and coffee: ~ Basically forbidden but one cup only of either is acceptable. ~ It must be very weak. ~ One teaspoon of coffee maximum daily. Mineral water: ~ Evian, Perrier. Wine: ~ An occasional drink allowed (150ml). Meat — maximum 130g per day Lamb: ~ One mid-loin chop (large): 130g. ~ One chump chop (average): 130g. ~ One forequarter chop: 115-120g. Beef: ~ One piece of oyster blade (medium): 130-150g. ~ Half a T-bone steak: 130-150g. ~ One piece of eye fillet. ~ One piece of sandwich steak: 60g. Pork: ~ One butterfly steak: 115-120g. ~ One mid-loin (medium): 120g. Chicken: ~ One breast BBQ chicken (family size) and meat from one drumstick: :approximately 130g. Fish: ~ Must be cooked in a "court bouillon" i.e. 500ml water, a little wine or wine vinegar and herbs (this reduces the salt content). Bread: ~ Must be low salt (content less than one percent). ~ Salt-free crispbread (Lanes Premium 50-percent-less salt cracker). Pasta: ~ Permitted without restriction, providing forbidden ingredients are not involved in the preparation. Rice: ~ Brown or white rice allowed. Cereals: ~ Semolina, tapioca, cornflour, flour allowed. ~ Puffed rice (available at health food stores). |
