What a CEDEC does!
The Gaspésie has a Community Economic Development and Employability Committee (CEDEC).
The CEDEC is an independent committee of volunteers, who fuels these groups with a diverse portfolio
of skills, expertise and encouragement to help other community members help themselves. CEDEC provides
a new vision for the long-term development of the community.
CEDEC has already become aware of the serious needs the community has identified in order to build a
prosperous and sustainable future (for example French language training for people of all ages). The CEDEC
represents the will by your English-speaking community to take these issues into their own hands. In doing
so, the CEDEC is also taking a close look at the assets and resources (such as people with ideas or skills)
available in the community. It works with other groups which are already doing excellent work in the community.
The CEDEC is involved in an innovative, long-term community economic development process built from the ground
up. It provides non-financial resources such as people, ideas, collaboration, motivation, partnership development
and planning to this process.

What's our CEDEC doing?
The local CEDEC uses many approaches to kick-start positive action in the community. First, the CEDEC
encourages community participation by holding forums, discussions and seminars that foster the sharing
of ideas. With these ideas, a vision is developed with the community and for the community.
Second, the CEDEC is constantly building its web of connections for the English-speaking population and
thereby serves as a reference and knowledge base for the community members. Everyone should become part
of the network and benefit from it!
There is also a strong emphasis on the CEDEC's role to develop leadership in the community. A special
focus is placed on developing this skill among local youth.

Why your CEDEC needs YOU!
The CEDEC encourages community members to dream! It wants to help create a
confident and proud local community that is second to none. How can the CEDEC
do this? It listens to people's concerns and challenges and find ways to address
them. It will motivate community into action by helping to move forward in the
direction decided upon by community; it acts as a catalyst to achieve these goals
and creating or supporting working groups in every community.

Why should you join?
There are several different reasons why people just like YOU join their local CEDEC.
Here are some examples:

develop new and important skills (often in the fields of facilitating, coordinating,
planning, leadership, mentoring, networking, etc.)

have a chance to contribute your skills and expertise for the benefit of your community
(we need planners, entrepreneurs, youth, technology-savvy individuals, creative thinkers,
etc.)

have a chance to meet people, network, make contacts within your English-speaking community
and find out about all the exciting things happening around you

have a place to share your ideas about the future and to be creative in your thinking

have your say in federal policy development that affects you and your community

gain a sense of contributing to the CEDEC process and belonging to your community

have an opportunity to learn about your community and help develop a new approach to build and
improve it

be part of the action...to change the world!
