| Welcome to the homepage of the Galkoff Family The main aim of the site is to tell you about our family and the decendants of Percy and Bertha Galkoff (if anyone can go further back then please let us know!). Our surname is very unusual, so if you know of anyone with the same name or a similar spelling, please get in contact. |
PROFILES/LINKS I'm in the middle of updating all the profiles and links, so you might find that there is no information on some of the pages. Don't worry, I'll get it sorted and update them all as soon as possible - watch this space! |

| P GALKOFF PROTECTED BY SECRETARY OF STATE English Heritage have announced that they have given Pembroke Place, P Galkoff's, a Statutory Listing. This is wonderful news as it will help preserve this historic buillding for generations to come. When a building is ‘listed’ it is recognized as being of special architectural or historic interest. Listing protects that building against unauthorised demolition, alteration or extension and ensures that its special interest is taken into account when proposals are put forward which affect its character or appearance. Decisions as to which buildings are listed are taken by the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, who is required by the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 to compile a list of buildings of special architectural or historic interest. English Heritage (EH) administers the listing system on behalf of the Secretary of State. |

| 100 Years old and still standing! 2007 represents the Centenary of P Galkoff Butchers Shop in Pembroke Place, Liverpool. 2007 has been an important year so far with the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport giving the building a Statutory Listing. On July 19th a special set of hoardings will be unveiled to celebrate Percy opening the shop in 1907. A creative partnership between the Liverpool Culture Company, Donna Berry – Visual Artist, City Centre and North Neighbourhood Management Services, members of the local community groups and schools in Liverpool. ‘A City in Progress’ uses creative writing, visual art, and photography to create images and text to be used on hoardings surrounding developments and key buildings to create a dynamic exhibition of a city in progress, its people and its culture. City in Progress has led to the creation of an outdoor art gallery by engaging local artists, school children, young people and members of the community in the celebration of Liverpool’s Jewish Community and heritage. The artwork has been created by Donna Berry to capture a time line of the last 100 years of the local Jewish community. These boards show how these Jewish immigrants who arrived from Eastern Europe from the 1880’s onwards lived and how they and their descendants contributed to the culture, prosperity and success of the city in a wide variety of fields. The event will celebrate the success of the work undertaken by all participants, and will include a site tour of the artwork that has been produced. |
