For some, beginning my statement with such a rebellious (or is it a defensive?) statement might be the fodder for derision, disapproval or denunciation but if you will read my poetry you will realize - my individuality, my rebellion and my thoughts are well - distinctly mine! All I've done is to express my inner most feelings through words. Some would call this poetry (very intelligent!); others might even balk at the thought. I do not intend to placate ruffled feathers, appease or appeal. Yes! I do not consider it to being a Magna Carta, but nonetheless, I feel bold enough to bring it out in the open to a wide audience. Appreciation or assassination is not the end goal; letting out my individual style (patent pending!) of thinking out into the open is. These poems were written over a period of two years. It all began when I was sixteen. 'Broken Trust' gave me the impetus and the award from Poetry.com simply fueled the thirst to compose more. (Hark! I prefer to compose than write poetry). Initially I wrote in the school paper, then for a some local youth magazines and had till recently been doing it all simply for myself. This compilation is intended to share my thoughts and words spun, with you too. A human mind should not feed only on optimism. Yes the colours of the rainbow do not fill more than a quarter of my poetic canvas, but the rest is not grey area either. Allah, Life Hereafter, Satan all have a place in my compositions. 'My Intense Passion for Him' was my first religious poem and is also one of my favourites. What a pity, we are ready to live for life but unwilling to die for death - 'The Final End'. Surely we are but mortals, or do words lend us the crutch to achieve immortality? I realize that I have not written much on Love and Nature even Rhapsodies - something's which I intend to make amends for soon. 'Life of a Psychotic Man' makes an interesting read but I would not suggest it as a study of all what my poetry has to offer. However, to all the rebellious debits, 'Deary' balances the ledger well. Surely there is someone out there who needs you to stay! -FN, Karachi February 1, 2000 |
