HISTORY

In 1949 the desire to learn more about the oil and gas industry by Humble Oil & Refining employee, Inez Awty Schaeffer led to an informal meeting of 73 women meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.  A month later the club was organized as Desk and Derrick with a commitment to Greater Knowledge of the industry and a wider association among women employed in the industry.  Three more clubs followed suit; Jackson, Mississippi, Los Angeles, California, and Houston, Texas.  In July 1951 these four clubs formed the Association of Desk and Derrick Clubs of North America.  In 1977 North America was dropped from the name and in 1987 equitable membership allowed men the opportunity to become members.

Thirty two women chartered the Farmington Desk and Derrick Club in 1957.  The Association is divided into eight Regions encompassing the United States and Canada with Farmington being in Region V along with; West Texas, New Mexico, and Southern California.
