NEVER FORGET
EVAN KUHN

Evan Kuhn was a 21-year-old photographer, filmmaker, artist, and writer from Northern California. He was tragically killed in an auto accident on February 5, 2005, along with his friends Matt Escamilla, Julio Prieto, Andrew Tibbitts, and Tammy Uresti.

While still in high school, Evan had his skateboarding film Mandatory Barge accepted and shown at the first Santa Cruz Film Festival and the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival. His photography was published in Ten Thousand Monkeys. His writing and art work were also accepted for publication. Evan also loved music and writing. He played guitar and was a natural drummer. At the time of his death, he was involved with a band and also did volunteer editing work for community television.

The family of Evan Kuhn has established a memorial fund to help promote the legacy of his life and creative work. Depending on donations received, the fund will be used to contribute to any or all of the following:

  • to establish a cash award (known as Evan's Prize) for the best in category for young filmmakers at the Santa Cruz Film Festival;
  • to provide scholarships for film, photography, and art students;
  • to provide camera and computer equipment to young filmmakers;
  • to provide a permanent memorial to all the young people involved in the auto accident that took Evan's life;
  • to provide a permanent graveside memorial for Evan;
  • other related memorial efforts.

Sources of the fund will include:

  • Evan's final pay check from his job at the Bagelry in Soquel;
  • Evan's first bank account opened less than two months before his death;
  • donations by Evan's extended family, friends, and supporters;
  • sales of a commemorative t-shirt and personal items belonging to Evan;
  • donations of equipment and software from manufacturers, distributors, and retailers;
  • your generous gift.
