This Section has been one of the permanent fixtures of this page throughout it's many incarnations. There are reasons for this. Poetry as a medium is a multifaceted gem. There are many sides to poetry: spiritual and mundane, silly and serious. There are poems for love, happiness, joy, and bliss just as there are poems for hate, sadness, grief, and misery. There are those poems that can be jaunty and flippant and there are those that are so intense you can feel the passion emanate from them. In this mutable nature lies a part of the wonder of poetry. But there is another aspect of poetry that is just as wonderful. Poetry is first and foremost, I believe, an expression of the soul. Poetry can free us from the shackles and chains of everyday life and give us voice to say those things we never would or could. It is in poetry that our passions and desires are given life and license to speak. It is in poetry that we can stop and admire something that is beautiful in a world that increasingly takes such things for granted. All in all, poetry is the language of the heart and spirit. To read a person's soul is to read that person's words. No greater revelation of a person's self can be given, no greater gift bestowed. This then, is who I am.
These pages are dedicated to Dave Powell, who showed me that beauty can exist in a simple leaf, a simple breeze, a simple red wagon, and in simple words; and to sean 18+1 for his appreciation of that beauty when no one else could see it and the encouragement along the way. Specific poems can be for specific people, but all in all, these pages are for them.
