The Vision…
Many years ago Dr. Martin Luther King Junior
delivered his famous speech “I have a dream”. He was envisioning a better
society where the black minority that are oppressed and unrecognized then will
be accepted in a society that has whites’ as majority. Today if he where alive
he will smile, because his dream has come to pass… In Africa, there are social crusaders, civil liberty organizations, youth empowerment organizations, HIV enlightenment organizations etc. The deaf/hearing impaired have been so marginalized, it’s almost like they do not exist. Nobody talks about them (unless negatively). And when some highly placed hearers show interest in their plight, it is to exploit them. True,
some of this deaf brothers and sisters has many association, but nobody is
paying attention to them, as such they are not united, they are not listened to,
they are not secularly educated, they are jobless, and very poor… So ‘we see a vision’ a better society where the deaf/hearing impaired minority will be well accepted in a society that has hearing people as majority… The Prothese Initiative Projects is not a deaf organization, but a deaf empowerment non-governmental organization, registered in the United Kingdom as a Charity.
