Nestled deep in the Appalachians of southern West Virginia, Emmett, also know as Elk Creek Hollow, once thrived a booming coal camp during the early to mid 1900s when two families often shared the four-room dwellings built by the coal company. In reality, the coal company provided most needs of its people: a community school, doctor's office, post office, grocery market, church, and of course, a bar and grill. |

Houses row-after-row were mirror images, resembling stacked dominos all gray in color with no running water or bathroom facilities. As for the people, they became intertwined--much like one big family. To this day, some of those old houses still stand and a few folks continue living among the remains of the old community of Elk Creek, West Virginia. |
