Ubique's Weekly Headquarters

Welcome to the first and only official website dedicated to Ubique's Weekly, a not-for-profit publication distributed to online free-form role-players far and wide. Here you will find everything you need to know about UW and those who dedicate their time to ensuring that there is news to share here, there, and everywhere. We here at Ubique's Weekly feel that role-playing online demands a certain amount of collaboration and cooperation on the parts of players and the characters they portray. So it is that we have come this far in presenting the world with a website to inform one and all just what it's all about. Certainly if you have come this far then you know how to operate a webpage. Therefore I feel no need to go into the unnecessary details. Feel free to browse around and delve through the collective database that we have provided at your leisure. Information should be free, and it is that concept that brings us to the creation of everything you see here. Enjoy your stay.

Mission Statement
So just what is Ubique's Weekly all about? It's a simple matter really. For as long as I have been roleplaying in free-form chat rooms online, there came a day in which I realized that more often than not arguments arise between players. Long-standing friends can become bitter enemies within a single session based solely on a simple matter of miscommunication. After being witness to this for some time, I finally sat down one day and tried to think of a way of solving this problem. That was probably the day that I created the AOL Group Mutual Endeavors. But even shortly after creating the group I realized that simply was not enough. Even with having members, players continued to neglect sharing information with one another. No matter how often I reminded my fellow players, the idea did not seem to sink in that all it takes is the use of that wonderful tool known as e-mail to keep each other informed of what is going on with their characters within their storylines.

One day I spent several hours discussing my annoyance with a friend of mine. Afer some time I chanced upon an inspirational idea. The picture and concept of a newsletter began to form in my mind. One in which all players who interract with each other could turn to as a resource to detail what the many characters in the role-playing universes were up to week by week. The idea was too good to pass up, too brilliant for me to set aside. There was only one problem. I could not come up with a catching title for it! Together my friend and I toyed with synonyms for various sorts of words, until finally one was uttered that snared my instant attention. After discovering the definition of the word, I deemed that it was perfect. Ubique was pulled from the Latin term hic et ubique, which means "here and everywhere," and transformed into Ubique's Weekly. Indeed, it was perfect.

At first I only wrote the newsletter and sent it out to a very small and select few. Due to the initial success, however, I quickly encouraged all those who were currently on the mailing list to forward copies to whomever they thought might enjoy reading the newsletter as well. I also informed them that those people were free to request that their names be added to the mailing list. The number of readers grew and continue to grow weekly. Overall the newsletter has been a success due to the amount of collaboration amongst the many players out there. To that I have become increasingly grateful and inspired. Indeed there have been fewer and fewer arguments arising between players, yet alas some still do.

Despite my original cause for creating Ubique's Weekly, tensions continue to develop between players. This is a fact of existence that I have come to terms with. I alone cannot solve the problem. However, together we can help forge a brighter future. One in which storylines are shared with the masses for the enjoyment and entertainment of all. A future where each player remains informed of what characters have been and will be doing throughout these stories that are collaborated upon. It is my hope that this newsletter will become the database that everyone can fall back on whenever they are in doubt of how to progress when working with someone on a grand scheme and project. So far it has been a great success.

There is just one thing that we should all remember. Keep in mind that most of the information provided within these pages should be considered as Out of Character knowledge. Out of Character knowledge is that sort of vital chracter and storyline information that only YOU (the player) should know. It should never be assumed to be knowledge that your characters would know or be able to get ahold of unless certain circumstances apply. Most everyone should be wise enough to know the difference between what is player knowledge and character knowledge. But keep in mind that you should always, always check with the player of another character before considering to use such information to your own storyline advantage. It's not just the right thing to do, but it's also a common curtesy that everyone appreciates.

For the final words of this statement I felt that I should fall back on something I had written in an early issue of Ubique's Weekly. It is a well-known fact that our rules and regulations here at UW concerning distribution of our newsletter are quite lenient. Time and time again we have encouraged each and every one of our readers to forward copies of our publication to anyone whom they might think would enjoy the reading. Presenting ourselves strictly as a source of collaborative and shared entertainment, we stick by certain policies such as those more commonly found in the Declaration of Independence. Most specifically we adhere to the ideologies surrounding Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press. Meaning your news is our news and news to be shared with the world at large. However, we don't exactly share our knowledge with everybody. Merely a choice few. And sometimes those choice few decide to share that knowledge with others. It is a common mindset that role-playing is in a sense a wide-scale collaborative effort all its own. It is that mindset that has kept Ubique's Weekly striving forward even today. Until the day in which there is no more to share, I will always continue to be...

Keeping you informed,
-- The Nefarious SM
