| Perhaps the easiest hosts file management software available. And it's free! |
How it works:FastDNS short-circuits the DNS lookup process when connecting to a hostname address such as www.yahoo.com. Whenever a connection attempt is made using a hostname address, Windows must first convert that hostname into an IP address before the connection is made. By using the built in hosts index provided by Microsoft Windows, when a connection attempt is made to a hostname address it first checks this index for the IP. If it doesn't exist in the hosts index, a DNS lookup process is initiated. This process can slow down the connection between you and the host by up to several seconds, especially if the network is busy. Whether the hostname address belongs to a website, an email server, or another computer on your network; FastDNS can help. New in this version: Lastest version: 3.8 Old versions (unsupported): Note: In order to run FastDNS you must have the .NET Framework version 1.1 or higher installed. You can obtain it here or from Windows Update. If you would like to redistribute FastDNS, please drop me an email first: ecg81@yahoo.com |
