go to http://mirc.com/get.html and download the latest version of mIRC

install it wherever the hell you want. defaults work

run mIRC.exe

enter your username and email. note: you cant change these from the options after this, you can only do it from a text file in the mirc folder
enter your nickname and alternate nickname (nick to use if first is taken)

next, go to the servers tab on the left, without closing options. if you close options you can get back in from file menu or by clicking the toolbar button to the right of the lightning bolt
click the add button on that page and use the following information:
description: solidirc
irc server: irc.solidirc.com
group: solidirc
leave the rest as is
click the add button in that window

change the 'irc server' dropdown menu to 'soldirc'
note: from now on, if i dont mention to change something, leave it as is unless you feel that you know enough to change it on your own

next, go to options tab. check all 4 boxes and click perform.
check enable perform on connect.
click add button and add solidirc
change dropdown menu to solidirc
add whatever you want it to do automatically on connect to the box. my suggestions are:
/join #cas
/join #alone
/join #olddrafts4you
/join #randomshit

click ok and go back to the main options window.
next, go down to irc tab
check:
rejoin channel when kicked
rejoin channels on connect
also under 'show in active' check:
invites
notices
ctcps
away

next go to the options tab under irc
check flash on channel message and flash on query
check hide ping? pong! event
go to highlight and check 'enable highlighting'
what this feature does, is that whenever anyone says something in your highlight list, that channel flashes green, and you can also have mirc beep
add whatever you want, most people have their nicks there.
for example, my nicks are daenyth and eaglewolf so i have
*daenyth*
*eagle*

next go to messages and check timestamp messages. also you may type something in the quit box to show when you /quit
go to logging and change menu to 'both'

hit ok to exit options.
click the lightning bolt to connect and if you wish uncheck the 'show favorites on connect' options on the box that pops up
next type /ns register desiredpassword youremail
then change to your alternate nick and type
/ns group mainnick yourpassword
now go back to options > connect > options (options, connect menu, options submenu)
click perform and add as the FIRST LINE /ns identify password

these instructions were designed for mIRC v6.16, for windows, so if they dont work right because of version issues, then too fucking bad
