In November, 1997, when he originated the title role in the musicalThe Scarlet Pimpernel. He went on to perform the role of Sir Percy Blakeney, a.k.a. the Scarlet Pimpernel, through May, 1999.
In February 2000, he returned to the role of Sir Percy to kick off the National Tour of The Scarlet Pimpernel in New Haven, Connecticut. He remained with the Tour until its Los Angeles stop where he took his final bow on June 18, 2000.
On Broadway, he has played the role of Orin Scrivello in Little Shop of Horrors (August, 2003 ~ June, 2004).
Off-Broadway, he played David O. Selznick in the world premiere of Moonlight & Magnolias at the Manhattan Theatre Club (March 2005 ~ May 2005).
Other roles include Archibald and Neville Craven in The Secret Garden (Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, First National Tour), Mack Sennet in Mack & Mabel (Reprise!), Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing (South Coast Repertory), Marco in Carnival (Encores) and Carl-Magnus in A Little Night Music (Kennedy Center Sondheim Celebration). He has had guest appearances in such shows as Empty Nest; Coach; Murphy Brown; Sliders; Sisters; Party of Five; Any Day Now; Will & Grace; Sabrina, The Teenage Witch; Numbers and The Closer.
He has also appeared in such films as Funny About Love (Italian Tenor) and Deuce Bigelow: European Gigolo (Chadworth). No — Douglas considers himself primarily an actor and as of this time, he has not released a solo CD. He did record solos on two charity CDs: Life's A Funny Present and You Can't Put Ketchup On The Moon. Unfortunately, both are out of print.
His voice can, however, be heard on the cast recordings of The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Scarlet Pimpernel: Encore! and Little Shop of Horrors.
