Austria Signs Peace Treaty with France

Paris, France—The governments of Austria and France signed a peace treaty this week ending the devastating war that has been raging for the last year.  Diplomatic sources within the Austrian Foreign Ministry reveal Paris and Vienna negotiated behind the scenes for months before finally reaching an agreement.  Tuscany, Venice, and the Union of Free States were also signatories to the treaty setting up a new power bloc in central Europe.  The move came as a shock to the capitals of Europe and in particular to Great Britain and Russia who were hoping to take advantage of the war to make a Russian assault on Prussia, according to diplomatic sources.

Russia Declares War on Prussia, Threatens War on Austria

Vienna, Austria—Russia this month declared war on its neighbor Prussia and threatened to make war on Austria.  According to the Austrian Ministry of War, Russian troops have invaded Prussia and have crossed the Austrian frontier.  According to press reports, the Russian Navy is also attempting to blockade Prussian ports.  European economists assess that markets across Europe are likely to feel the impact of the blockade.  Rumors on the diplomatic circuit claim that Britain is pulling the strings in Moscow as the Tsar is known to be a puppet of London.  War Ministry officials declined to comment on what steps Vienna would take in response to the Russian threat, but our sources report the movement of Austrian armies eastward.  Another source claims that Emperior Dancis I, while reviewing returning regiments from the war with France, was overheard commenting that poorly trained and equipped Russian troops would be no match for the Austrian veterans.  Unconfirmed reports also indicate the Austrian Foreign Ministry this week deactivated Austria’s previous alliance with Russia.  The Osterreich Times was able to obtain a copy of the Russian ultimatum.

My dear Yorck,

The Tsar has invoked the Alexander Nevsky doctrine.  Austria and Prussia must remove all troops from their borders with Russia.  We require a minimum of three (3) squares distance from the Russian border, forming a demilitarized zone.

We do not mince words.  This is an ultimatum.  There can be no discussion.  There can be no whining or justifications upon your part.  Remove your troops three squares from the Russian border, or dire consequences will result.

Sincerely,

Prince Ivan Bobrov
Foreign Minister
Empire of Russia

Statement by Austrian Foreign Minister Hans David Ludwig Yorck Von Wartenburg on the Signing of the Treaty of Paris 1793

Nations of Europe,

After months of terrible war, peace is at hand in central Europe and Italy.  The Treaty of Paris 1793, signed by Austria and Tuscany, Venice, and France and the Union of Free States settles a conflict that threatened to expand into every corner of the continent.

The Treaty of Paris represents the strongest opportunity for the continuation of peace in Europe and heralds a new period of cooperation between Austria, France and the Union of Free States.   The joining of this alliance is a message to all nations that despite historical differences, states can work together for the benefit of all.

Signed,
Hans David Ludwig Yorck Von Wartenburg
Foreign Minister, Austria

Starving Russian Troops Deserting in Large Numbers

Iglau, Austria—Russian troops, stranded in Austria for the past several months since Russian war efforts collapsed early in the campaign against France because of incompetence at the Russian War Ministry, have been deserting in mass numbers.  Local Austrian government officials report that starving Russian troops, mostly conscripted peasants, have been seen in greater numbers begging for food in the towns and villages near Iglau.  The troops have also been selling their rifles for food, according to arms makers in the region.  Local arms sellers state that the rifles are of very poor quality, and in most cases have never been fired.  One merchant told us that the rifles appeared to have only been dropped once.
