On January 12, 2002 my husband drove out to our farm to load grain into semi's on a cold and windy Saturday. There is a vacated farm house where the grain bins are located. My husband noticed a beagle by the house and when he investigated further he found six newborn pups in a partialy hole dug by the mom dog up next to the house.
My husband immediately phoned me at home and told me I had better come out to the farm right away because there was a Beagle and her six newborn pups outside in the cold. I grabbed blankets, carriers and dog treats and drove out to the farm. The mom was very protective of her pups and very frightened. It was obvious she was a stray that had been dumped off probably several days ago.
While my husband kept an eye on the mom, I gathered all the pups in a carrier and quickly put them in my warm vehicle. It took my husband and I about an hour to catch the mom. I made a noose and finally got close enough to her to throw it over her head. Once she was put in the carrier she was calm and friendly.
Once I got mom and pups settled in at my house, the mom became the sweetest and most loveable little thing. Here are photos of where she had the pups and photos of the mom in the carrier minutes after I caught her.

This is where she had her pups. Right in the corner of the house by the fireplace.

That night the temperature went down to twenty degrees F. If my husband had not found the mom and pups that day I'm sure the pups would have frozen to death that night. These were lucky little pups because my husband was going to load grain Sunday but decided to go out Saturday instead.
