Education and Training of Probation and Parole Officers
In Oklahoma, to qualify for the position of Probation and Parole Officer, you must be at least 21 years old, have no criminal record and physically able to perform the duties of a law enforcement officer.  Applicants must possess no less than a bachelors degree with at least 24 hours of credits in a social behavioral type field.
Once hired, the applicant must successfully complete the state police academy (CLEET) as well as the Department of Corrections Pre-Service Academy.

Officers continue their education each year through additional CLEET courses, assessment training, weapons and self-defense re-qualification, legal blocks and various other classes.

Most officers I work with have a masters degree.  It is common for Probation and Parole Officers to have prior experience in law enforcement or a military background.  Many are qualified mental health professionals and conduct group and individual therapy in addition to their duties as an officer.

Oklahoma has some of the most educated and qualified Probation and Parole Officers in the country.
