About This Page

Before I begin here, perhaps I should mention that it would help a lot if you knew what the PhotoReading Whole Mind System IS.  If you don't, then go check out the official site from LSC.  But!  Seeing as how you probably do in fact know what it is, let's begin!
Here's the way it works - the italic and underlined text is either a tip, or a question.  This section works rather like just reading a Q & A or F.A.Q.  So, just use common sense, and enjoy.

Tips on Preparing
Preparing is probably one of the easiest out of the five steps from PhotoReading, but many people often find themselves, among others, asking the same basic questions.  Well here, I hope I can answer some of these questions, and give some valuable information.

One question I have is, how do I know I'm in the 'alpha' or 'theta' state?
Well the truth is, is that because the brain operates on herts, or hz - it is very difficult to determine without any sort of equipment or something.  But rather than worrying about the individual detail of being in the exact state, worry instead about whether or not it feels natural and comfortable.  In fact, you'll find in nearly any question you ask that one of the main things is whether or not it feels natural and comfortable.

I'm lost on how to do the tangerine technique.  Just WHAT is it supposed to feel like?
Everyone is very different, and while the tangerine technique is one of those things that isn't die-hard critical for the small prepare step - remember that you may not need it, or want it, and just might be better off without it!  Many say it sometimes feels like a tingle either afterward, or while doing the actual PhotoReading and Activation steps.   Other times, when putting your finger to the spot first, and then concentrating on the sensation it makes does a huge difference.  If you can't really get this down the way it says in the book, don't worry.  It's merely a method for taking your conscious mind off of the actual material going into your subconscious during the PhotoReading step.

Tips on Previewing
I don't think I have too many tips on previewing, as it is definitely the most widely claimed easiest step in the system.

Is the preview step necessary?
For lack of a better word: no.   It's not necessary.  =)

-Don't forget about mind mapping!
When previewing your key words, don't just think of them in your head.  This was my first impression over what you were supposed to do whenever first seeing it.  However - it is crucial you WRITE IT DOWN!  If you're going to do the preview step, always remember to write it down.   Previewing, combined with the rest of the system and mind mapping makes the best study method for textbooks.

Tips on PhotoReading
"The key to the system is actually within the PhotoReading step itself...with normal reading it's like we're trying to pour everything into the wrong end of the funnel.  What PhotoReading does is it takes the funnel and turns it right side up so we can take the entire book in at once."-Paul Scheele

What's the blip page supposed to look like?
Tons of people ask this question, and when they're told "a cocktail weenie," they look at you like you're insane.  There are lots of different answers for how it's supposed to look, and sometimes the blip can be many different shapes and sizes for most people.  Most of the time, it generally takes on the form of a long, skinny cylinder. It's always down the center crease/line of the two pages in front of you.  Some people don't see the blip, however.  If you think you're one of these people, get on google.com and look up 'stereograms.'  Then try to decifer them, and also try Magic Eye pictures.   If you start to get it, practice it, and then getting the blip should be a sinch.   All the blip is there for is a way of knowing that you're maintaining a divergent gaze.
Otherwise, try out the X technique.   It's as simple as looking at an X drawn accross the area of the pages.  Refer to pages 48-49 in your PhotoReading book.

'So you're telling me that you CAN'T see what's in front of you?!  How are you supposed to understand it?'
The PhotoReading step is what starts off your subconscious mind being able to take in the information that you will later want to recall to your conscious.  It doesn't matter if you can't read it.   In fact, that's the entire point.  Your subconscious is getting it 100% clearly.

Will doing the PhotoReading step several, several times help in less activation time?
No, it won't.  The PhotoReading step takes the information into your conscious level.  Even if you were to PhotoRead it a 1000 times, you're not going to get much more from it than what you did the first time, or even the first four times.  PhotoReading it once or twice is suffecient, and then use activation, which is where the understanding and knowledge comes into place.

Tips on Activation
Ah, yes.   The key step in the PhotoReading system!  This also seems to be the one that confuses most people.  All this is, is taking the stuff that you couldn't see in the PhotoReading step and bringing it to the conscious mind.

What's the difference between SuperReading, RapidReading, PhotoReading, dipping, and all the kinds of readings and my God I'm lost?!!
SuperReading is sort of like dipping, but rather a smoother, quicker, more relying on scanning method of dipping.   The two link almost completely, however.  dipping is simply going down the center section of the page, and getting any text that attracts you.  PhotoReading is...well read about Step 3!    RapidReading should only be done, as mentioned in the PhotoReading book, after all of the other steps!  It's when you don't know what you need from the book, but you know you need something else that you haven't gotten.

Would making an outline help?  What do I need for mind mapping and how does it work?
Making an outline or some other form of notes during a preview would definitely be an excellent idea.  Then, you can transfer the information from your notes to a mind map.  Mind mapping is something that can sound sort of dull, or even unnecessary until you just try it!  I was like this, and wow!
What you need for mind mapping - is really something that's up to you, and that you decide.  It's recommended you get a nice HUGE sheet of paper, and then use different colored markers and pens to get more of your mind/senses involved.
Taking a look at the examples from the PhotoReading book on pages 66 and 68, you'll notice that these two examples are rather different.  The first one on 66, you'd picture a lot more creative drawing, and coloring involved.  Other times, if you're not quite such a 'visual' person, then you may prefer to use a more 'logical' mind map, like the one shown on 68.  Don't follow too many rules, however!  Remember that just about absolutely everything within the system is flexible and you can use nearly anything shown in a way better than what they've done!  Find what's best for you, and play with it.

I don't get it.  Just how is activation supposed to work??
Activation is probably one of the most misunderstood topics in the system, and this is something I, and many other PhotoReaders understand.  It could be a number of things why you're not understanding it, or what confuses you.  However - to be short within a general idea of just what activation is, I can tell you that it's certainly not magic.
Just like how many have asked, "Why aren't Pete Bissonette and Paul Scheele in the Guinness book of records or something?!"  Pete and Paul are the main two haunchos of the system, but one thing that you need to understand about activation is that it's not regular reading.   Remember the differences between super reading, and dipping.

How should I go about activating my school textbooks?
Treat each chapter of a textbook as a book within itself, and activate it as such.  It's recommended that you make a mind map for each chapter.  It's about as simple as that, combined with mind probing questions for virtually any subject except for mathematics.  When you're dealing with math, make practicing the operations, and functions taught in the chapter part of the activation.  Take a few of the problems from the book and try working through them.  Most textbooks have several sections that have answers in the back of the book so you can double check your answers.

Conclusion
There are still many things to be put onto this page, but in the mean time - you can also check out the
forums at LSC's site.  Or, if you're willing - drop me a line with a question or suggestion at youngprer@yahoo.com.  Always know that I love to hear new ideas!
