Mariongrad WW2 Reenactment
Three times each year in the hills of northwestern Ky, WW2 history enthusiasts meet in the trenches of Mariongrad to reenact the battles and recreate the history of the war in Russia. WW2 is best remembered for the use of mechanized formations and aircraft to achieve decisive breakthroughs, but the fighting that raged in many parts of Russia, and cost hundreds of thousands of lives were reminiscent of the trench warfare of WW1. The event hosts do not endorse any of the political views of either side in this part of history. Our only purpose is to honor those who fought for their country.
These events are sponsored by the 8th Guards Mechanized Corps, and are co-hosted by the 19th Brigade/8th GMC and 10 Kompanie Gross Deutschland.
The Mariongrad reenactment site is located a few miles north of Marion, Ky in the densely wooded hills along the Ohio River and features hundreds of yds of dug trenches, with bunkers, barb-wire and fighting positions. Heavily wooded terrain makes for an excellent infantry battle, but the site is too thickly wooded for vehicles.
The event weekends are scheduled in January, May and September of each year. The battle fees are $20, payable at gate, and includes a hot period meal on friday nights. All profits from the events go towards site improvements.
