Ooops, pine 4.40 is here. Enjoy. Note: I haven't enough time to test it.
Pine 4.30 is out. Sorry, I'm kinda busy right now but maybe during long thanksgiving holidays I will find time to update patch for 4.30 (21 Nov 2000)BTW, looks like they fixed the bug in editor so you will need only one patch.

Note: this is NOT a linux-specific patch. This patch suitable for generic UNIX. For linux specific pacthes please visit you vendor (there are a lot of them now: KSI Linux, ALT Linux, ASP Linux, whatever-linux). Let's assume that you already know good mailer PINE. Pine using editor PICO as build-in editor and you can run PICO as stand-alone program. But there will be a problem. By default pico using standard spell(1) command which is not really useful. OK, pico (or pine) allow you to use external spellchecker (I'm using ispell). But the annoying bug lurks here. When pico starts external spellchecker/editor it writes temporary file, external programs works with this file and then pico reads this temporarily file into current buffer. Everything goes fine except one thing: after reading temporary file the filename associated with current buffer changes from original one to the name of the temporary file (which does not exists anymore). So if you started "pico -s ispell my_dir/my_cool_file.txt" then after spellchecking you found that now you're working with file "/tmp/whatever". Not really useful. Another problem (for users from ex-USSR) is that pine does not allow to send 8 bit text in message subject "as is". Strictly speaking it's OK since it's implemented according RFC-blah-blah-blah, but you know those Russians. :) For some historical reasons such behavior is not acceptable for ex-USSR. So, Serguei Koubouchine <serg@ssft.ternopil.ua> made a patch for pine 3.96. Current pine version is 4.21 (Nov 17 1999). There are some significant changes since 3.96 in pine sources so Serguei's patch needs some adaptation which was done by me. There is no significant changes in mail handling routines from 4.10 to 4.20. Thus if you brave you can apply patches for perevious version (it will fails somewhere in help text, everything else seems to be ok). Anyway, I got pine 4.20 yesterday (Oct 13 1999), so this patches are not fully tested yet. :) Ok, pine 4.21 is out. Claims to fix something but guys from BUGTRAQ don't think so. Anyway, i made patches for 4.21. Enjoy. Sorry, there is nothing for pine 4.3x Whoa! Pine 4.40. Enjoy. Fell free to use this patches by remember that I made these patches for myself and I don't take any responsibility for possible damage and data loss in your system. |
