| Lips & The Trips' own brand of rock-n-roll, r'n'b known as "Swamp Throb" is the perfect pairing of Pulse and Sweat, back together by popular demand!!! Celebrating 22 years (Easter Sunday, April 18, 1987) of thrills in the Entertainment World as Leader, Vocalist, Bassist and Songwriter for Lips & The Trips, D. "Lips" Shus, is looking forward to meeting more like-minded individuals looking for fun in the coming years. Before launching Lips & The Trips (through the support and encouragement of singer-songwriter, Sean Walters in Houston), Lips cut her performing teeth with the quirky vaudevillian talents of Beans Barton & the Bi-Peds (celebrating 23 years in March 2009). Introduced to New Orleans by Fredy Omar's pianist, Ralph Gipson, and at once entranced by it, Lips moved to New Orleans in 1996 (carting whatever she could in her now-defunct 1974 Chevy Impala, the LipsMobile), and began playing regularly at Checkpoint Charlie's, Margaritaville and (with T-Bone Stone) on Bourbon Street. In 2001, Lips was joined by Johnny J. and Jesse Hall on Bourbon Street, and recorded by Gary Edwards' Sound of New Orleans label in 2002. DANCE BABYS DANCE, SONO 1058, features r-n-r, r'n'b, swing and rockabilly. (Available through this website, in person at our shows, through Sound of New Orleans Producer Gary Edwards, and at Louisiana Music Factory, 210 Decatur Street, New Orleans. Get yours today!!!!) In April, 2002, Lips performed with Johnny J. and the Hitmen at the first-ever Red River Jazz & Blues Fest in Shreveport, and appeared on "the Louisiana Jukebox" T.V. show that same week. In Spring of 2004, Lips toured the Virgin Islands with the help of promoter Charlie Campbell. With stops in St. Croix, Tortula, and Charlotte Amalie, and with the help of Michael, "Psycho Frank," Tommy, Joe and his gal, Donna, Toby, and another woman named Lips (!!!), plus all the wonderful folks down south, Lips decided a picture-postcard view everywhere she looked was a lot like home in New Orleans. Now with the help of blast-off drummer Adrian Piano, and JungHo Khan at French Quarter and uptown clubs, like Checkpoint Charlie's, Lucky's Lounge, and The Kerry Irish Pub, catch Lips' Kissulipshus stage presence, and her talented band, where you will be lifted up to become the audience member you always wanted to be. Check out and emit effervescent enthusiasm along with Lips and The Trips' contagious charismatic vitality, admit that life in New Orleans is not like anywhere else, and then quit your job and move here!!! | Before the LipsMobile was ravaged by sun, wind, torrential downpours; alcohol; mosquito and alligator bites; mad, middle-of-the-night motorcyclists; and Lips' less-than-average driving skills, She was a 1974 Chevy Impala, known as "The Impaler." After an exterior paint job of a buncha pairs of painted lips and a rooftop snakeskin job by her friends in Houston, Artists At Large, Carolyn & Mitch Cohen, She began a five-year promenade in the Houston Art Car Parade, the Impaler became resplendent and was thereafter affectionately referred to as "The LipsMobile" |
