O "HUGS" . Many years ago I read some books by and saw Dr. Leo Buscaglia, a motivational speaker on TV. You may not know of him or remember him because Leo Buscaglia died of a heart attack on June 12, 1998. Dr Buscaglia wrote many books about Love and said that everyone needs a certain number of hugs a day to survive. His comment impressed me so, that I have never forgotten it and think about it every time I give or get a hug.
Most of us think of a hug as just that, two people embracing. Yes, it is that but is many other things as well. Stop and think about it. Anything that makes you feel better can be a hug. A pat on the back, a “job well done” comment from someone, or a complement, they can all be hugs. Although he did emphasize the value of positive human touch, especially hugs. In today’s society we hug when we see people we have not seen in a while and when we depart. We hug our friends when we see them even if we just saw them yesterday. That is great! We all need hugs and should hug more.
Some people may be shy about physical contact, but that does not mean that they do not need a hug. They do! I don’t mean invade someone’s personal space though. Personally I am a hugger and give hugs as often as possible. Think about your life and how you are with others. Are you a hugger? How does a hug make you feel? |
